Mercedes-Benz’s involvement in tennis goes back a long way: the Stuttgart-based brand has been the main and headline sponsor of the MercedesCup for almost 40 years now. This year’s ATP tennis tournament is set to take place at the Tennis Club Weissenhof in Stuttgart between June 10 and 18. A wealth of internationally renowned players and representatives of the German tennis elite have confirmed that they will be taking part. This will be the third time that the tournament has been played on grass.

After taking part last year, Swiss star Roger Federer, one of the best tennis players of all time, will be returning to the MercedesCup courts. Following victories in the Australian Open and the two Masters in Indian Wells and Miami, Roger Federer is a hot tip to take the tournament and drive away the winner’s car. In addition to prize money totalling 112,460 euros, this year’s winner will be presented with a Mercedes-Benz E 400 4MATIC Cabriolet. Other MercedesCup hopefuls this year include top stars such as Grigor Dimitrov and Tomáš Berdych and the top German players Mischa Zverev, Philipp Kohlschreiber, Tommy Haas and Florian Mayer.

The winner’s car is not the only highlight at this year’s tournament at Weissenhof. With the tournament taking place on its home turf, Mercedes-Benz will be showcasing a variety of vehicles, including a C 63 AMG S Cabriolet, an AMG GT C Roadster, smart electric drive vehicles and the B-Class electric drive, which was added to the Stuttgart car2go fleet in April. One very special highlight will be the presence of the futuristic Concept EQ study. This will be the first time that it has been exhibited at any event in Germany other than a motor show. The study vehicle provides a glimpse of the emission-free future of mobility at Mercedes-Benz.

Alongside these product presentations, the star brand will have other treats in store for MercedesCup visitors: a Mercedes-Benz S 500 Cabriolet will be used to highlight connectivity and demonstrate the functions and digital possibilities offered by “Mercedes me”. On Tournament Tuesday, known as Ladies’ Day at the MercedesCup, world tennis star Roger Federer and singer Mandy Grace Capristo will be meeting and chatting to female customers at a “She’s Mercedes Networking Lunch”.

Mercedes-Benz will also be involved in other aspects of the event, away from the courts. A fleet of vehicles that includes five S-Class S 500 e plug-in hybrid models will transport the participants to and from their matches. The hybrid vehicles can be charged at on-site charging stations and will provide safe and particularly green transport for the players. As in previous years, visitors to the tournament will also be able to enjoy this special service: on both weekends and on the public holiday Mercedes-Benz will be providing a shuttle service from the University of Stuttgart’s campus in Vaihingen and from the Mercedes-Benz Bank to the tournament site.
