Roll on springtime: The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet can be ordered as of now with prices starting from 139,051.50 euros and will be making its way to dealers from April 2016. The sixth variant of the current S-Class family is simultaneously the first open-top luxury four seater from Mercedes-Benz since 1971.
The new cabriolet offers distinctive design, the cutting-edge technology of the S-Class and a comprehensive heat insulation and draft shield concept including intelligent air-conditioning control for cabriolets.
With a Cd value of 0.29, aerodynamics world champion Mercedes-Benz sets a new benchmark in this segment with the S-Class Cabriolet. As a worthy sister model for the S-Class Coupé – the series production car with the quietest interior of all – the open four-seater offers excellent noise-related comfort, too. A three-layer acoustic soft top comes as standard.
The V8 engine of the S 500 cabriolet (from 139,051.50 euros) has an output of 335 kW (455 HP). Engine displacement is 4,663 cm3, maximum torque 700 Nm at 1,800 rpm. With NEDC consumption (combined) the cabriolet consumes just 8.5 liters Super/100 km, the CO2 emissions are 199 g/km.
For the first time in the company’s history Mercedes-AMG has a luxury-class cabriolet in its model range with the S 63 4MATIC (from 187,484.50 euros). The twin-turbo 5.5-litre V8 engine generates an output of 430 kW (585 HP) as well as 900 Nm maximum torque and accelerates the cabriolet from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. As standard the S 63 comes with the AMG performance all-wheel drive with rear-biased torque distribution. A further Mercedes-AMG vehicle, the S 65 Cabriolet, can be ordered from 4 April 2016.
The S-Class Cabriolet comes with an extensive range of standard equipment – among others COMAND Online, the intelligent THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, electrically adjustable front seats with Memory Package, as well as the LED Intelligent Light System all come as standard. The two-door model can be individualized by adding the AMG design and equipment line, the Exclusive Package, and numerous other optional extras.
The design and equipment line AMG Line (6,485.50 euros) comprises AMG bodystyling components on the exterior, consisting of front and rear aprons as well as side skirts with inserts finished in the colour of the car, the diamond radiator grille with chrome pins as well as 21-inch 5-double-spoke design AMG light alloy wheels painted titanium grey. The front and rear brake discs are perforated, while the front and rear brake callipers have “Mercedes-Benz” lettering. Interior features of the AMG Line include high-gloss black poplar wood trim, AMG sports pedals in brushed stainless steel with rubber studs and AMG floor mats in velour.
The Exclusive Package includes the exclusive designo nappa leather upholstery, consisting of seats and instrument panel in nappa leather with contrasting topstitching and edging, centre armrest and door centre panels as well as front and back arm rests in nappa leather with contrasting topstitching. Another stand-out feature is the seat upholstery layout in a diamond design with patterned perforations. There are metal designo badges in the seat backrests plus a designo roof liner and sunblinds in DINAMICA microfibre. Also part of the Exclusive Package are the map pockets in the driver and front passenger seat backrest in designo nappa leather, velour floor mats with designo metal badges, stainless steel boot sill as well as door sills with illuminated “Mercedes-Benz” lettering. The Exclusive Package costs 7,925.40 euros for the S 500 Cabriolet, and 5,902.40 euros for the Mercedes-AMG S 63 4MATIC.
The new S-Class Cabriolet is optionally available with the automatic draft shield system AIRCAP (1,178.10 euros). This can be extended at the touch of a button to reduce turbulence in the interior. AIRCAP consists of two components: a wind deflector with a grid in the windscreen frame that is extendible by seven centimeters and an extendible draught-stop behind the rear seats with convex contours and stainless steel trim elements.
Another optionally available feature is the AIRSCARF neck-level heating system (773.50 euros). This extends the convertible season by enabling comfortable open-top driving even at low outside temperatures. With this patented neck-level heating system, warmed air circulates around the head and neck areas of the occupants from the head restraints.
The Warmth Comfort Package (511.70 euros) ensures even more cosy warmth. The armrests on the centre console and the doors as well as the multifunction steering wheel can be heated in addition to the seats. Driver and front passenger can choose between three different heating levels at the touch of a button.
