The focal point of the Mercedes-Benz presence at the 84th Geneva Motor Show is the S-Class Coupé. The new top model from the Stuttgart premium brand combines classic sports car proportions with modern luxury and state-of-the-art technology.
The stylish two-door is the first series-production car worldwide to be equipped with the MAGIC BODY CONTROL chassis system with curve tilting function. The success story of the S-Class Sedan will also start its next chapter in Geneva: With the twelve-cylinder models S 600 and S 65 AMG, Mercedes‑Benz is underscoring its leading position in technology, equipment and safety. Further highlights in Geneva include the European premiere of the new C-Class and the show premiere of the new V-Class, which combines the spaciousness of an MPV with the comfort typical of a Mercedes passenger car. And, with the new service brand “Mercedes me”, the brand with the three-pointed star is also presenting the central element of its new service strategy, which delivers all customers convenient access anytime and anywhere to its extensive array of mobility and service offerings.
“The new S-Class Coupé stands at the very pinnacle of our product portfolio and is a further milestone in our luxury-class offensive with a total of six models in future instead of three,” says Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “This car drives as good as it looks – and that’s no mean feat, because we’re talking here about the most beautiful S-Class of all time.”
The active curve tilting function MAGIC BODY CONTROL marks a world premiere. “It allows the S-Class Coupé to lean into a curve in a similar manner to a motorcycle rider, reducing the lateral acceleration acting on the
occupants,” says Prof. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development. “On country roads in particular, this means more driving fun and comfort for our customers.” Further technical innovations in the elegant two-door include the head-up display and the newly developed touchpad.
The coupé is available initially with a 4,663 cm3 V8 biturbo engine. In the S 500 Coupé, the efficient power unit generates 335 kW (455 hp) and a maximum torque of 700 Nm. Like the S-Class Sedan, the Coupé is available with a host of new assistance systems that make driving even safer and more comfortable. The “Intelligent Drive” systems include PRE-SAFE® Brake with pedestrian recognition, DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist and Stop&Go Pilot for partially autonomous driving, Brake Assist BAS PLUS with Cross-Traffic Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus and Night View Assist Plus.
If desired, the interior of the S-Class Coupé can be even more sumptuously luxurious and comfortable. The AIR-BALANCE package with scent dispenser and ionization is available as an option, as is arm-rest heating as part of the Warmth Comfort package. The ENERGIZING massage function based on the hot-stone principle is available with the Seat Comfort package (special equipment).
The new S 600: top model with V12 engine
The new S 600 with V12 biturbo engine is available exclusively in the long-wheelbase version, complete with an extensive package of appointments. At market launch, the other models in the range will benefit from an expanded range of equipment. This includes the head-up display and a new touchpad for operating the COMAND Online multimedia system, which will be standard equipment on all S-Class models.
At 390 kW (530 hp), the V12 biturbo engine in the S 600 generates even more power than its 380 kW (517 hp) predecessor, yet, with an average of 11.1 l/100 km, consumes 21 percent less fuel. Displacement increases from 5,513 to 5,980 cm3. Maximum torque is 830 Nm and is available at 1,900 rpm.
The new S 65 AMG: the ultimate in Driving Performance
The Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG is the only high-performance automobile from a German premium manufacturer to have a twelve-cylinder engine, and it sets the benchmark as the most powerful vehicle in the segment. With 463 kW (630 hp) and 1,000 Nm of torque, the V12 biturbo unit delivers an incredibly refined driving experience. By reducing fuel consumption by 2.4 l/100 km (NEDC combined) and fulfilling the EU6 emissions standard, the new V12 sedan is fit for the future. Power transmission is via the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. Its wide ratio spread enables considerably lower engine revving than the preceding five-speed automatic, thus contributing to the reduction in fuel consumption.
The new C-Class: only the best will do
Thanks to an intelligent lightweight design concept with up to 100 kilograms less weight, best-in-class aerodynamics (cd 0.24) and new, fuel-efficient engines, all of which are equipped with the ECO start/stop function, the new C‑Class delivers the best efficiency figures in its class. The new model consumes up to 20 percent less fuel than its predecessor. A host of new assistance systems from the Mercedes full-size class offer the highest levels of safety. The Stop&Go Pilot, for instance, makes it the only car in the segment with partially autonomous driving. The new chassis, optionally available with AIRMATIC air suspension, ensures excellent suspension and body roll comfort, as well as agile handling characteristics.
Visually, the new C-Class sets progressive design accents with its clear yet emotional design and its first-class interior. Overall, the look-and-feel of the new C-Class is like an “upgrade to a higher class”.
The new V-Class: the Mercedes among the MPVs
From emotional design through premium interior equipment and outstanding safety to efficient driving fun, the new V-Class comes with a wide range of new features that are unparalleled in this segment. “The new V-Class brings together the best of two worlds – the functionality of an MPV and the typical strengths of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars,” says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.
The V-Class is the only vehicle in the segment to offer a broad palette of assistance systems that fuse together safety and comfort. These include the standard-fit Crosswind Assist and the optional Active Parking Assist, which makes the MPV as easy to park as a compact car.
Best-in-class efficiency comes courtesy of state-of-the-art turbo diesel engines with incredibly low fuel consumption ranging from 5.7 to 6.0 l/100 km. The new V-Class also scores highly for its spaciousness and versatile seating and loading configurations. One particular highlight for easy and convenient loading and unloading is the rear windshield, which can be opened separately to provide access to a second loading level.
With two equipment lines, two wheelbases, three vehicle lengths, three engines and a wide selection of optional equipment, the new MPV can be extensively individualized. This enables it to fulfill an extremely broad range of customer requirements: The focus is on families with two or more children, active individuals with large piece of sports equipment and operators of luxurious VIP or hotel shuttles.
