With its progressive and dynamic design the Mercedes-Benz CLA has emerged as the clear winner of the competition held by German motoring magazine “auto, motor und sport” for the title of best new design product of 2013 in the compact car class.
No fewer than 17,680 readers cast their votes in this year’s Autonis design awards which “auto, motor und sport” holds each year to honour the most beautiful new cars. The only criterion is to establish which car the readers find the most attractive. The contest in the compact class saw the CLA secure clear overall victory with more than 29 percent of the vote. The coupé is seen as a style rebel and impressed readers with its exceptionally innovative design. Sporty proportions, allied to a powerful and dynamic design idiom characterised by a sensual interplay between concave and convex surfaces, make the CLA unmistakable and give it all the attributes of a future design icon.
The exterior’s progressive, sporty appearance is continued inside the vehicle. Its hallmark features include an unmistakable, clear and sensual design idiom and a very special high-quality appeal thanks to the selection of premium materials and the wide choice of combination options.
As a compact four-door coupé, the CLA not only created a new segment but also established itself as a world champion in the field of aerodynamics, with a world’s best Cd value for a series production vehicle of 0.22. In addition, it also sets new standards when it comes to efficiency thanks to favourable consumption and low emissions values from 109 g CO2/km.
In keeping with its sporty character, the CLA is available with high-torque turbocharged engines producing up to 155 kW (211 hp), a sports suspension and also 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Its technical highlights comprise numerous driver assistance systems, including the enhanced COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST.
Even prior to its market launch the CLA was praised for its outstanding design by design experts, who presented it with the famous “red dot award”.
