“Automotive News Europe” has selected Jörg Prigl, Head of the Compact Cars Product Group at Mercedes-Benz, as “Eurostar 2013” in the “Product Development” category.

The award for outstanding executives in the auto industry is being presented on 9 September 2013 in the run-up to the Frankfurt International Motor Show at Schlosshotel Kronberg, Frankfurt.

Jörg Prigl, 59, began his career at Daimler-Benz in 1981 after studying economic science at the University of Karlsruhe. The father of three has held several positions since then, among them Strategic Project Manager for the first-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK between 1994 and 1997.

In mid-2003, Prigl took over at the helm of the A-Class product group, and he is now responsible for the design and implementation of Mercedes-Benz’s new Compact Car Generation. He has therefore played a major part in the success of the A-Class, B-Class and CLA-Class. There has been particularly high demand for Mercedes-Benz’s new compact models in the first seven months of 2013: a total of 202,149 A-Class, B-Class and new CLA Coupé models have been delivered world-wide (a 62.7% increase compared to the same period last year). The GLA, which is a compact SUV, will be the fourth member of the model family to celebrate its premiere when it is unveiled at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt.

This year is the 16th time in a row that Automotive News Europe has presented the “Eurostars” awards. The awards are presented to the best executives in the European car industry in recognition of their long-term decisions and their boldness in implementing these decisions.
