Germany’s specialist motoring magazine “sport auto” had called upon its readers to vote for “The sportiest cars of 2011”. And in the super sports car category, the SLS AMG crossed the finishing line in first place. It was the gull-wing model’s second appearance in a row on the winner’s podium.
With its stunning design and exquisite technology, the gull-wing model is reminiscent of the legendary 300 SL sports car of the 1950s. Among the highlights of the SLS are its aluminium space-frame body, AMG 6.3-litre V8 front mid-engine with 420 kW (571 hp) and 650 newton metres of torque, seven-speed dual clutch transmission in a transaxle arrangement and aluminium double-wishbone sports suspension. This high-tech combination guarantees the ultimate in driving dynamics and will quicken the heart of any sports car enthusiast.
“sport auto” has carried out its reader poll for “The sportiest cars” each year since 1980, in which sports car fans cast their votes for their four-wheeled favourites in terms both of performance and sportiness. This year, 11,392 readers joined in to select the sportiest production models.
