The Supervisory Boards of Daimler Financial Services and Mercedes-Benz Bank announced the following personnel changes: Alwin Epple, 48, who assumed his new position as CEO and President of Mercedes-Benz Italy on June 1, 2011, will be succeeded by Franz Reiner, 43, who will join the Board of Management of Daimler Financial Services AG with responsibility for the Europe region, effective August 1, 2011.
Reiner, who will also become Chairman of Mercedes-Benz Bank AG, was previously a member of the Daimler Financial Services Board of Management with responsibility for the Americas region. As part of the executive reorganization, the former Chairman of Mercedes-Benz Bank, Peter Zieringer, 43, will be appointed as a member of the Board of Management of Daimler Financial Services and succeed Franz Reiner as the responsible board member for the Americas region, as well as CEO and President of the business operations of Mercedes-Benz Financial Services in the U.S., all effective August 1, 2011.
Alwin Epple joined the Daimler Group 21 years ago and has served in various management positions in different markets and regions throughout his career. He has been at Daimler Financial Services for 16 years. Epple’s career at DFS began in Singapore, where he played a major role in setting up business operations for the Asia-Pacific region. In 2000 Epple was named Managing Director of Daimler Financial Services in the UK.
In 2003 he was appointed a member of the Board of Management of Daimler Financial Services with responsibility for the regions Europe and Africa & Asia/Pacific, as well as the insurance business. Among other things, Epple managed the successful launch of the financial services business in China and was also responsible for the increase in profitability that was achieved in the Europe region. As President of Mercedes-Benz Italy, Epple will now be responsible for the third-largest European sales company in the Daimler Group, with a sales volume of approximately 90,000 units.
Franz Reiner began his career at Daimler 18 years ago as a member of the Management Associate Program at Mercedes-Benz Bank, whose sales operations he took over in 2000. In 2003 he was appointed to the bank’s Board of Management. In this capacity he played a major role in the successful expansion of Mercedes-Benz Bank to become a supplier of a full range of banking services and one of the leading financial services providers in the German automotive industry. Reiner transferred to Canada in 2005, taking over responsibility for the financial services business in that country. In 2009 he was appointed President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Financial Services in the U.S. and board member of Daimler Financial Services with responsibility for the region Americas.
Peter Zieringer began his professional career in 1993 as a trainee at Daimler-Benz AG in Stuttgart. In 1995 Zieringer moved to Singapore, where he held various positions and helped set up the company’s financial services business in the region. He took over the management of Daimler Financial Services’ operations in France in 2001, and later succeeded in substantially increasing the profitability of the French company. Zieringer was named Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Bank AG in 2005. His responsibilities in that position included managing the significant expansion of the deposit banking business and the further internationalization of Mercedes-Benz Bank, among other things through the creation of dealership financing offices in Spain and the UK. Zieringer also laid the groundwork for the strategic reorganization of Mercedes-Benz Bank, which included the concentration of operations at three central locations in Germany.
“I’d like to congratulate Alwin Epple, Franz Reiner, and Peter Zieringer on their appointments, and I wish them much success in their new positions,” says Daimler Financial Services Chairman Klaus Entenmann. “All three have contributed to the success of our financial services division through their many years of outstanding work.”
