Dr. Hansgeorg Niefer, currently Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-Benz South Africa, will take over as Head of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Berlin, Germany, effective May 01, 2011. He will thus succeed Thomas Uhr, who took on a new assignment in Powertrain Development of Mercedes-Benz Cars on March 01, 2011.
Also effective May 01, Dr. Martin Zimmermann, currently Head of Daimler Strategy & Alliances, will succeed Dr. Niefer as Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-Benz South Africa.

His successor as Head of Daimler Strategy & Alliances will be Dr. Gero Herrmann, currently Head of the Legal department of Daimler AG. The company will inform about the new Head of the Legal department in the near future.

Dr. Hansgeorg Niefer joined the company in 1981 as a technical apprentice. After completing his engineering studies in 1986, he took on various assignments with increasing responsibilities in engine production and development. In 2002, he took over as Head of the Mercedes-Benz plant in East London, South Africa. Since 2005, he has been responsible for the Daimler group’s activities in the country as Head of Mercedes-Benz South Africa.
Dr. Martin Zimmermann joined the company in 2000. From 2001 through 2003, he headed the Product & Process Strategy unit of the commercial vehicles business and subsequently took over as Head of Daimler Strategy & Alliances with responsibility for the strategy of the group and its divisions.
Since joining the company in 1988, Dr. Gero Herrmann assumed various positions with increasing responsibilities. In 2004, he took over as Head of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil. He has been Head of Daimler AG’s Legal department since 2009.
