In 1991 Mercedes-Benz breathed new life into an old tradition: after an interruption of exactly 20 years, the brand returned to the market with a four-seater cabriolet, developed as a derivative of the intermediate class 124 series saloon. Production began in 1992. Cabriolet development was based on the Coupé, and in terms of mechanical components the Cabriolets were identical with their four-door counterparts.
