Daimler-top manager explained, that CEO Dieter Zetsche and his Renault colleague, Carlos Ghosn have also planned a joint construction of three-cylinder engines, which could be used for the next Mercedes-Benz A-and B-Class models. Negotiations are progressed but not completed. In according to the expectations of Daimler the demand of passenger cars in the premium segment could move to smaller models, which would make the A- and B-Class more important. At this time, the company earns no money in the compact segment and is so desperately looking for partners.
The cooperation with other partners could have significant impact on the development costs and the number of sales in the compact car segment.
