Statements from Gary Paffett, Jamie Green, Ralf Schumacher and Norbert Haug, Vice President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport, with regard to the sixth race of the 2009 DTM season on Saturday, 15th and Sunday, 16th August 2009 at the Nürburgring:

Gary Paffett, currently leading the drivers’ standings after five out of ten races is the ‘DTM halftime champion’: “At the Nürburgring in 2008, I didn’t qualifiy fourth but also finished fourth, so there’s obviously room for improvement. And that’s exactly what I’m planning to do, preferably to take top podium spot and extend my lead in the title race.”

Jamie Green, currently the top driver in a last year car:
“I’ve heard that the recent revamp of facilities at the Nürburgring has been really good from a spectator and fan point of view. From the Mercedes grandstand, you now have much better visibility of the track. I’m sure that the atmosphere in the Eifel is going to be terrific. I’m aiming to put in a strong performance and finish the race still leading the standings for 2008 cars.”

Ralf Schumacher, whose favourite circuit is the Nürburgring:
“As I was brought up just 100 kilometres away in the town of Kerpen, the Nürburgring sort of counts as my home venue. I picked up my first DTM point at the Nürburgring in 2008, and six years before that, I actually won a Formula One Grand Prix there. I always enjoy the fantastic atmosphere in the Eifel and am determined to be up with the front-runners next weekend.”

Norbert Haug:
“The Nürburgring fixture is a classic on the DTM calendar. What is so gratifying is that there is always such a tremendous turnout of motor racing fans. It won’t be any different this time, even though this race is being staged during the holiday season.Last year at the Nürburgring, we achieved a magnificent one-to-four victory in the rain. After winning three out of the previous five races, we are still carrying an additional weight handicap. Winning will be a heavy task literally speaking – but it was the same last year.”
