The competition for the best score in the Drivers’ League has come to an end with the finalists being revealed. Some 5400 drivers demonstrated exceptional performance, stamina and tremendous motivation in the first series of competitions to be held concurrently across several countries to find the driver with the most economical driving style. By driving safely and efficiently on their daily operating routes, they succeeded in achieving excellent rankings in the FleetBoard performance analysis. This takes into account consumption and wear-related variables, such as anticipatory driving, speed variation and braking behaviour, for example.

•Emerging top of the table from Germany were drivers from the companies GP Günter Papenburg AG and DOEGO Fruchthandel und Import eG.

• In Great Britain, 21st Century Logistics Ltd and Clarke International Ltd took top honours.

• Top of the Italian rankings was the company S.T.B. SRL, with two drivers.

• The Benelux region was dominated by two drivers from Smeets Beheer B.V.

• In Romania, drivers from 8TIM SA and Mirex SRL topped the list.

• The winners in Austria were drivers from LKW Augustin Spedition Logistik & Transport GmbH.

The final result as to who will take top honours as overall victor in this year’s Drivers’ League still remains to be decided. The outcome will be decided at the European live final on 12 September 2009 in Wörth (Germany), where the best drivers from each of the countries will face each other in a variety of disciplines designed to test their economical, skilful and safe commercial vehicle driving skills.

According to Klaus Schnorr, managing director of DOEGO Fruchthandel und Import eG. (Germany): “We teach our drivers to drive economically on a consistent basis and are very proud of the results we have achieved. We are extremely pleased that we have done well once again, and have managed to get three drivers into the finals. Having already won the team assessment in 2007, but just failing to make a place onto the winners’ podium at last year’s finals, our aim now is to come away with the top title.”

The partners in this year’s FleetBoard Drivers’ League are: Mercedes‑Benz CharterWay, Mercedes-Benz Global Service & Parts, Mercedes‑ Benz Accessories GmbH, Shell, Allianz Versicherungs-AG, FERNFAHRER Club and LOGISTIK AKADEMIE. They are supporting the drivers with some attractive prizes.

In addition, Shell is also providing fuel and lubricants designed to improve fuel economy. The new Shell Diesel fuel featuring economy formula, as well as the new Shell Rimula R6 LME 5W-30 diesel engine oil, can help to reduce fuel consumption by up to 5 percent. Mercedes‑Benz CharterWay places the emphasis squarely on safety and environmental compatibility in its own fleet, and is supporting the FleetBoard Drivers’ League for the fifth year.

A variety of prizes have been awarded this year. However, there is much more to the contest than just winning prizes. With each trip, the drivers have demonstrated that they are the masters of their art, and are making a significant contribution to fuel savings. They drove in an incredibly economical way in their country leagues and showed once again how important their contribution is to the success of their business.
