On Monday, on the occasion of the “75 years Silver Arrow” ceremony, drove the world champion Lewis Hamilton, the current DTM driver Ralf Schumacher and the former racing driver Hans Herrmann and Jochen Mass, different former silver arrows on the test track – a 2 km long circuit – at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Untertürkheim. The really planned driver Christian Danner and David Coulthard could not participate this event because of a missed departure.
With deafening noise, the driver had a lot of fun. Lewis Hamilton – he drove a W25 from 1934 – said that he had to slow down much earlier with the silver arrow of the first generation, and driving with the big steering wheel feels like a double-decker bus from London.
Ex-racing driver Jochen Mass had probably the most fun, on the trip with the silver arrows. – He turned the most laps – more than originally planned.
Racing legend Hans Herrmann had initiallyproblems with his original helmet – but he could help himself and droves later several rounds with a W196 – as if time stood still. Usually he drives a Mercedes-Benz CL 600.
