Stars are a familiar sight in Tuscany – be it art and culture, wine and cuisine, or towns and landscape, the Italian connoisseur region has a host of stars to its name. Anyone travelling through this classic touring region in a Mercedes-Benz Viano Marco Polo brings yet another star to this perfect setting.

And thanks to the manoeuvrability of the Viano Marco Polo is ideally placed to discover hidden gems off the normal tourist track. The journey is an end in itself courtesy of the comfortable, safe suspension and the powerful yet economical drive system. Thanks to the ingenious, high-grade fittings and furnishings every stay is a bonus. And you can also relax and enjoy spending the night – ideally under a starlit sky – in a Viano Marco Polo.

Viano Marco Polo: big shot among the compact camper vans
The figures alone are testimony to its success: while new registrations of camper vans in Germany increased overall by 18.1 percent in the first six months of 2011, registrations of Mercedes-Benz camper vans rose 24.5 percent. And growth internationally has been equally solid: in the first half of 2011, new camper-van registrations in Europe increased by 10.4 percent to 49,624 units. The compact Mercedes-Benz Viano Marco Polo camper van even managed to comfortably better these excellent figures: sales in the first half of the year rose by 82 percent to some 900 units.

Comfortable and practical: Mercedes-Benz Viano Marco Polo
The concept of the Viano Marco Polo is just right: its dimensions are compact and perfectly suited to everyday use for a camper van, measuring exactly 5.0 m long and 1.9 m wide. With the roof closed it remains under the two-metre height restriction which is important for everyday usage. Cockpit, drive system and suspension are entirely on a par with high-end passenger car standards. The interior with its fully fitted kitchen and cupboards on the left-hand side, the moveable individual-style seats and the rotated front seats have been purpose-designed and honed down to the very last detail. Mercedes-Benz and its experienced conversion partner Westfalia have also come up with numerous refinements, which are only available in a Viano Marco Polo.

Minimal scope for improving the hallmark features
The tried-and-trusted arrangement of the living area in the Viano Marco Polo is a classic, with its spacious fully fitted kitchen and cupboards on the left-hand side, as well as the unique movable seat design with electrically adjustable individual seats and electropneumatically inflatable seat cushion bolsters, leaving minimal scope for improvement.

The fully equipped living accommodation for the Viano Marco Polo is a compelling proposition: pop-up roof (as an option with electrohydraulic EASY UP function), comfort roof bed resting on special flexible spring elements, seat that converts into a bed with electric adjustment and bed extension, wardrobe and roof stowage cupboard along with a drawer in the seat base, kitchen with dual-burner gas stove, compressor-type coolbox and sink as well as stowage compartments, external power socket and charger for the separate on-board battery, hot-air auxiliary heating with timer and temperature control, table, all-round privacy curtains and a valuables compartment – the Viano Marco Polo is ideal as a compact camper van, for impromptu overnight stays as well as for weekend excursions and long holidays.

Viano Marco Polo in detail: well-thought-out fittings and furnishings
You just need to open the easy-glide sliding door to appreciate the special qualities of the Viano Marco Polo as you catch your first glimpse of the living accommodation. The fronts of the furniture sport silver surfaces; the integral decor strip with its burr walnut-look finish takes its cue from the strip in the cockpit. In this camper van, the basic vehicle and the living accommodation, the Viano and the Marco Polo fittings and furnishings form a harmonious whole in terms of style and materials. The surfaces and decor strips with their high-quality look and feel convey the hallmark quality of a Mercedes-Benz.

The seating consists of the two-seater bench with individual seats in the rear, the attachable table and the swivelling front seats. Thanks to the space-saving foot-operated parking brake and joystick-style shift lever in the instrument panel, the seats can be effortlessly swivelled, providing unimpeded access from the cab to the rear. The seat base on the co-passenger seat features a lockable valuables compartment, with a stowage net on the side of the base – just two of the many practical details on the Viano Marco Polo.
The high-quality, homely fittings and furnishings on the Viano Marco Polo rest on a hard-wearing, easy-to-clean foam-backed floor covering. As an option, the floor is available in a wood-look finish, similar to the decking on a luxury yacht. It looks homely yet at the same time exquisite. Additional everyday flexibility comes courtesy of the option of an additional individual seat.

Fully fitted kitchen and cupboards: practical and spacious
The fully fitted kitchen and cupboards do not just provide a visual highlight: in the Viano Marco Polo, the stowage and cutlery drawer can be accessed at any time. Thanks to the roller fronts, the contents of the spacious stowage compartments are conveniently to hand. With a compact camper van like the Viano Marco Polo with its versatile uses it is these kinds of clever details that make all the difference. For instance, plastic clips secure the removable shelves in the cupboard while on the move. One of the many examples of why the sturdy fixtures and fittings do not produce lots of noise even on poorly appointed roads.

The kitchen in the Viano Marco Polo is fully equipped with a dual-burner gas stove, a compressor-type coolbox with insert, and a sink. The 40-litre capacity of the coolbox is sufficient to store more than enough Tuscan delicacies as food for the journey, such as the typical exquisite sausage products. A gas-operated strut lifts the cover on the coolbox and on the stove/sink unit.

The know-how of the experienced camper van manufacturer is reflected in the detail: the raised cover for the cooker/sink unit not only serves as a splash guard; it also includes a fold-down draining board for dishes. And the designers have even thought about a waste bin. A 12 V power socket as well as a clothes hook are fitted in the trim on the roof frame in front of the cupboard. Insect screens on the sliding windows help keep unwelcome guests at bay.

Bench seat: electrically adjustable, electropneumatically inflatable bolsters
The unique bench seat on the Viano Marco Polo is mounted on rails so it can be moved. The two electrically adjustable individual seats in the bench come with electropneumatically inflatable seat cushion bolsters. They improve seating comfort noticeably, provide lateral support while on the move and a comfortable flat surface at the destination once deflated. ISOFIX anchorage points can be used to secure child seats. A large drawer under the bench seat as well as the roof stowage compartment in the rear can be used to stow luggage – every last centimetre in the Viano Marco Polo is used for the benefit of those on-board.

This also applies to the table, which is stowed away in the sliding door trim while on the move. Once the vehicle has been parked, the tabletop can be slotted into a rail on the front of the kitchen, the foot into a bench seat rail – and away you go.

The bench seat converts into a bed at the push of a button
As soon as it is time to turn in for the night, an electric motor effortlessly transforms the two individual seats into a double bed at the push of a button – an unrivalled feature. Deflating the seat cushion bolsters creates a comfortable, perfectly flat bed that is two metres long. Here too is another clever feature: the bench seat is raised automatically a few centimetres as it is being folded out, preventing the belt buckles from uncomfortably poking out into the bed in the Viano Marco Polo.

Comfort is a priority with any Mercedes-Benz, and for a camper van in particular: the bed extension which forms the head section above the luggage compartment on the Viano Marco Polo can be raised in stages using a loop and a support. This feature further improves the already high level of comfort.

Additional luggage can be stowed under the bed extension – or those little souvenirs from Tuscany. Whether it is two cases of good Chianti or even a fine Brunello di Montalcino, maybe a few terracotta objects from Impruneta, there is more than enough room in the Viano Marco Polo. If you need to transport bulky items during everyday use, the users can simply position the bed extension vertically. The cargo section can simply be enlarged by moving the bench seat forward. Removing the bench seat transforms the camper van into a fully fledged van. Load securing lugs are testimony to the vehicle’s credentials as a cargo carrier.

Open stowage compartments in the roof-mounted cupboard and the laundry cupboard can be used to stow small items of luggage in the rear. Other practical features include the connection for an outside shower, the power socket in the luggage compartment as well as a collapsible shopping crate together with bracket – ideal for shopping in the market.

Roof bed: no different from your bed at home
The pop-up roof on the Viano Marco Polo fits seamlessly onto the body. When closed it is securely fastened using two locks on the left and right. It opens manually using a gas-strut mechanism or optionally at the push of a button using the highly convenient electropneumatic feature. Integrated guide rails keep the roof bellows section taut and automatically retract the bellows section as the roof closes.

There is another bed under the roof, also around two metres long. A look under the foam mattress reveals a combination of slatted base and a flexible spring system, making for the sort of night’s sleep you get at home. A positive ventilation outlet at the front and two other outlets at the side let air and light into the upper deck. A protective net prevents children or objects from falling out.

On-board systems: high-quality, efficient and fully complete
The efficiency of the Viano Marco Polo is typical of the brand down to the very last detail: the two LED lights, each with five individual bulbs inside, in the rear provide a bright light as soon as they are switched on, illuminate the interior fully and only consume minimal power – an important factor when venturing off the beaten track where facilities such as mains power are not available. Additional reading lights in the rear make reading a pleasure. Two reading lights above the bed extension as well as two lights near to the roof bed round off the lighting.

In any case, the Viano Marco Polo comes with extremely reliable on-board systems, just as you would expect. A powerful auxiliary gel battery powers the vehicle’s electrical system. The camper van also comes with a 230 V external power socket and a battery charger. The fresh-water tank has a capacity of 36 litres, the waste-water tank 32 litres. Both tanks are mounted in the interior of the vehicle to protect them against frost. Standard equipment also includes a fuel-powered auxiliary heater including timer and temperature control. The powerful heating capacity of 2.5 kW maintains the living area pleasantly warm even on cold days.

The camper van’s gas supply is limited to a gas bottle for the stove. When it needs replacing, the bottle can be accessed by swinging out the laundry compartment – one of the many clever ideas in the Viano Marco Polo. Other ingenious touches include the standard-fit power socket at the rear for a repeater lamp on the optional bicycle rack.

Passengers control and manage all the key functions on the clearly laid out control panel in the centre console on the Viano Marco Polo. The panel displays the interior and exterior temperature, battery capacity, operating status of the coolbox and the level of the water tanks. The control unit for the auxiliary heating is also integrated.

Fresh look emphasises the character of the Viano Marco Polo
Seen purely from the outside, the current generation of the Mercedes-Benz Viano Marco Polo can be recognised with its striking headlamps – picking up on the style of the current Mercedes-Benz passenger cars – featuring powerful reflector headlamps, integrated daytime running lamps, and a radiator grille with three silver painted louvres with chrome surrounds. Bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, Add-Light System and headlamp washer system are also available as an option. Single-piece lamps with black glass-look mouldings and the deep-set bumper catch the eye at the rear.

The exterior mirrors with integral indicator lamps provide a large field of vision. Wide-angle sections are integrated in the mirrors on both sides – a major improvement to safety not just while manoeuvring in Italian old towns where space is tight.

For the 2012 model year, Mercedes-Benz is freshening up the looks with the new “hibiscus red” and “dolomite brown metallic” paint finishes.

The cockpit: comfortable and user-friendly
From the driver’s and co-driver’s view from the cockpit, the Viano Marco Polo instantly appeals to the senses as a camper van. The rim of the multifunction steering wheel and the shift lever knob are trimmed in nappa leather which is pleasant to the touch. The driver operates the standard-fit trip computer via the buttons on the steering wheel. The trip computer provides information on parameters such as average fuel consumption and range. The instrument cluster with its white scale illumination is a new feature for the 2012 model year. The precise, easy-to-read instruments resemble a chronometer. All the pushbuttons are arranged clearly at the top of the centre console.

The cockpit boasts high-grade Softtouch surfaces. A decor strip emphasises the masterfully crafted character of the Viano Marco Polo. As standard, the decor strip is finished in a brown burr-walnut-wood look and is optionally available in a black burr-walnut-wood look. The comfort seats come as standard with seat angle and armrest adjustment. A host of stowage facilities and drinks holders are ideal for storing snacks and refreshments for the journey.

Thanks to extensive insulation measures, passengers enjoy low noise levels. Amenities such as air-conditioning, electrically adjustable heated exterior mirrors, electric power windows, height and angle-adjustable steering column, fog lamps and remote-control central locking all come as standard.

Clean and economical with BlueEFFICIENCY technology
A holiday close to nature without harming the environment in a camper van need not be a contradiction with Mercedes-Benz. Supreme efficiency for low emissions and fuel consumption lie at the heart of the current generation of the Viano Marco Polo. All model versions meet the EU 5 emissions standard. The drive system is not only outstandingly environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient: it also accelerates with consummate ease and boasts outstanding refinement.

The four-cylinder diesel engines with a displacement of 2.15 litres and the V6 with its 3.0 litres are at the heart of the line-up. CO2 emissions and fuel consumption achieve record-breaking low figures. Behind these figures is not just the advanced engine technology in the Mercedes-Benz four and six-cylinder engines including particulate filter, but also the BlueEFFICIENCY technology, which comes as standard on all Viano models. BlueEFFICIENCY includes on-demand ancillary units, an ECO start/stop function, gearshift display, ECO power-steering pump, low-rolling resistance tyres and – a new feature – generator management. The generator is designed to charge during braking and is governed during acceleration.

A badge below the A-pillar is testimony to BlueEFFICIENCY. Mercedes-Benz is setting new standards with this technology: no other manufacturer adopts so many measures to reduce fuel consumption as part of its standard specification. Just what you are looking for when touring through the kind of unspoilt landscapes you find in Tuscany.

Powerful, smooth-running diesel engines with four and six cylinders
The smooth-running four-cylinder diesel engines in the Viano Marco Polo cover output ranges from 100 kW (136 hp) to 120 kW (163 hp). In addition to output, torque of 310 Nm and 360 Nm respectively is also formidable. Maximum torque is already available at very low engine speeds of 1400 rpm or 1600 rpm respectively. All of which ensures good performance, smooth running and low fuel consumption. NEDC fuel consumption in the two output classes Viano CDI 2.0 and 2.2 Marco Polo is just 7.2-7.4 l/100 km.

The unique V6 CDI in the Viano CDI 3.0 Marco Polo with four overhead camshafts and aluminium crankcase delivers effortlessly superior performance coupled with superb refinement thanks to output of 165 kW (224 hp) and impressive torque of 440 Nm. The standard-fit automatic transmission teams up seamlessly with this powerplant for those who appreciate the finer things in life. The result is surprisingly low NEDC fuel consumption of 8.5-8.6 l/100 km. All four and six-cylinder diesel engines come with balancer shafts, which together with the dual-mass flywheel, guarantee superb smooth running.

The Viano 3.5 Marco Polo is available for customers who want even more, a 3.5-litre petrol engine developing 190 kW (258 hp) of output. This unit is also fitted with an automatic transmission as standard.

ECO Gear manual transmission reduces engine speed, fuel consumption and emissions
The six-speed ECO Gear manual transmission plays a large part in the good acceleration and low fuel consumption of the Viano Marco Polo. Fitted as standard with the four-cylinder diesel engines, its large gear-ratio spread reduces emissions and fuel consumption. The transmission guarantees acceleration when moving off as well as nonchalant coasting with low engine speeds and low emissions, not to mention low fuel consumption at high cruising speed.

Suspension: ride comfort, driving pleasure and handling safety
The combination of ride comfort, driving pleasure and handling safety is the hallmark of the agile suspension with rear-wheel drive on the Viano Marco Polo. It not only handles extremely safely and is manoeuvrable, but is also very comfortable. Suspension, damping and road and tyre vibration are compelling even when venturing off the beaten track.

Precise, sensitive steering comes into its own on the winding side roads of Tuscany. Overall the compact camper van always handles precisely, predictably and safely. At the same time it sets the benchmark for comfort, road and tyre vibration, and noise levels.

Whether on gravel or snow: the Viano Marco Polo with the all-wheel drive system 4MATIC is available to meet the most discerning requirements. The electronic traction system 4ETS automatically brakes the spinning wheels individually, increasing the drive torque at the wheels with sufficient traction. The all-wheel drive system 4MATIC is always combined with an automatic transmission. The result is extremely comfortable all-wheel drive even when the going gets tough: accelerate, steer and brake is all you need to do at the wheel of a Viano 4MATIC Marco Polo, the technology will look after everything else.

The exemplary safety features on the Viano Marco Polo
The Mercedes-Benz Viano Marco Polo boasts an unrivalled range of safety and assistance systems as standard. The Electronic Stability Program ADAPTIVE ESP with anti-lock braking system ABS, acceleration skid control system ASR and Brake Assist BAS features detection of load and weight distribution. It is compulsory for all models. The brake lights automatically start flashing during emergency braking; the hazard warning lamps automatically come on once the vehicle has come to a stop.

As an option, start-off assist AAS, an automatic tyre pressure monitoring system, the parking and manoeuvring aid PARKTRONIC as well as a reversing camera enhance the extensive comfort and safety features on the Viano Marco Polo.

Versatility itself: the Mercedes-Benz Viano Fun
When flexibility is the name of the game, the Viano Fun truly comes into its own. This vehicle provides an ideal combination of everyday and leisure characteristics – a family or business vehicle that can instantly be turned into a weekend home on wheels. The outstanding versatility of the Viano Fun is presaged in the availability of both compact and long variants. The compact version comfortably houses five occupants. The front has swivelling comfort seats for the driver and front-seat passenger, with a fold-out table and seat bench for three passengers in the rear, which can be slid along, removed or used as a highly comfortable bunk. A cushioned bed extension provides valuable added sleeping space.

The long version of the Viano Fun has an additional bench seat in the middle, and is also fitted with one additional individual seat as standard equipment, or two as an option. The individual seats can be slid along a rail system, either in or against the direction of travel, and can also be removed using the convenient grips provided for this purpose.

The optional pop-up roof, in the Easy-Up electrohydraulic version if desired, makes the Viano Fun more like a mobile home. This option offers generous standing space, and a comfortable roof bed can also be added for further sleeping accommodation if required.

The “Comfort Fun” equipment package makes the Viano Fun even more comfortable to drive. Ambient lighting, cockpit with soft-touch interface and a multifunction steering wheel with trip computer, electrically operated pop-out windows for the second rear seat row, fabric cushioning in the side wall panelling, an additional heat exchanger in the rear plus a raft of other detailed features help to create a convivial on-board atmosphere.

Service that knows no limits: Europe-wide service package at no extra charge
Anyone taking a Mercedes-Benz camper van on holiday is never alone: with over 2600 service centres throughout Europe, Mercedes-Benz offers a close-knit network of workshops for vans. In an emergency the free Service 24h hotline will arrange assistance in no time at all, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Should your Viano Marco Polo actually break down, Mercedes-Benz MobilityGo will keep you mobile: the free guaranteed mobility package includes rapid on-the-spot breakdown assistance as well as the reimbursement of taxi fares, and the provision of a replacement vehicle if the repair is likely to take more than two hours. MobilityGo is valid for all Viano models for the first two years following initial registration with no limit on mileage.

An enhanced BlueEFFICIENCY package is to be introduced very soon: a new generator management system will be helping to reduce fuel consumption in the Mercedes-Benz Vito and Viano from September 2011.

Effective new feature
During braking, the new generator management system converts part of the kinetic energy produced into electric energy, which is then stored in the battery. Feeding this additional energy into the system means that the alternator can be restricted under certain operating conditions, as it is during acceleration, so reducing the strain on the combustion engine.

The intelligent alternator works independently and, as far as the driver is concerned, imperceptibly. The power electronics increase the alternator voltage as needed to ensure fast recharging of the battery. The technical term used here is recuperation, a process that uses kinetic energy that would otherwise dissipate into the atmosphere as heat given off from the wheel brakes.

BlueEFFICIENCY, and thus also the new generator management system, is part of the standard specification for the Viano, the Vito crewbus and for every Vito model with passenger car type approval.

Into the future with BlueEFFICIENCY
BlueEFFICIENCY was developed by Mercedes-Benz as part of its efforts to shape the future of mobility in a responsible and sustainable manner. The term encompasses a series of intelligent and innovative technologies that work together in such a way as to give noticeable reductions in fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. The scope of the efficiency package includes, amongst other elements: an economical 4-cylinder CDI diesel engine in two output variants, a state-of-the-art V6 CDI diesel engine (with automatic transmission), consumption-optimised ECO Gear 6-speed manual transmission and further fuel economy measures, depending on the model.

With the Viano Vision Pearl showcar, which will be presented at this year’s International Motor Show (IAA) in September, Mercedes-Benz demonstrates what is possible in the van sector.

A full leather interior in white/grey, wood floor, brushed aluminium trim, chromatically tinting windows and the Bang & Olufsen high-end sound system “BeoSound Viano” make a journey in the Viano Vision Pearl a memorable experience for up to six occupants.

The design concept is takes its inspiration from that of modern sporting yachts, with the theme of travel as an experience. The onboard W-LAN connectivity caters for the needs of modern, mobile individuals. For ther exterior design, Mercedes-Benz has for the first time in the van sector used the paint finish “magno pearl grey”, a matt, pebble-grey colour. The stylistically revised front end of the Viano with its integrated LED daytime running lamps gives the van a more sporty, powerful appearance.

The way is the goal: driving experience meeting the highest expectations
Mobility is nowadays more experience-oriented. Most people no longer travel somewhere just to relax and enjoy themselves. Car or motorcycle tours, cruises, sailing trips or trekking tours – the travelling time itself becomes part of the experience. Mercedes-Benz reflects this trend with the Viano Vision Pearl. “We want to show what can be done with the Viano. The Viano Vision Pearl is not merely a functional van, but also a stylishly designed living space,” says Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans. “We have created a vehicle which combines generous spaciousness with an impressive design. Anybody who attaches importance to stress-free and at the same time stylish travel will find that the Viano Vision Pearl is the ideal companion. The interior design and technical features make the Viano Vision Pearl the S-Class among vans.”

Generous spaciousness combined with impressive interior design
The interior of the Viano Vision Pearl is not so much a functional space for passenger transport, but rather a living space.

The name Vision Pearl emphasises both the design concept and the repositioning of the Viano: The Viano of the future is the perfect travelling companion, and in this version it conveys a modern, maritime theme.

Impressive listening experience with Bang & Olufsen “BeoSound Viano” high-end sound system.

The Viano Vision Pearl is rounded off by the Bang & Olufsen sound system.

Mercedes-Benz has worked together with this world-renowned manufacturer of audio systems since 2009, and integrates the high-end sound systems into passenger cars such as the S-Class.

Thanks to the very high output of 1320 watts (the S-Class has 1200 watts) and 18 integrated, specially hand-built loudspeakers, the vehicle occupants are treated to an outstanding listening experience.
The Viano Vision Pearl is stylishly discreet where the outside world is concerned: as the loudspeakers are located in their own housings, very little sound volume escapes to the outside.

The latest generation of the Mercedes-Benz Viano sets a new benchmark for large-capacity vehicles. New engines and transmissions reduce both fuel consumption and emissions while at the same time improving performance. The suspension provides the highest levels of ride comfort and driving safety. Cockpit and passenger compartment have been made more ergonomically friendly and attractive than ever before. The icing on the cake is the Viano 4MATIC with permanent all-wheel drive. With its superior traction, this vehicle makes its mark as a saloon for business users and families, as a camper van or as a towing vehicle. On top of that, the permanent all-wheel drive could hardly be easier to use.

Viano 4MATIC: outstanding traction and maximum safety
The driving dynamics and handling of the Mercedes-Benz Viano benefit inherently from the vehicle’s rear-wheel drive as well as from the comfort and safety of the suspension. The Viano 4MATIC now takes this one stage further: with its permanent all-wheel drive, it delivers optimum traction and consequent maximum safety even under the most unfavourable conditions. Whether it be in snow or on ice, on a dirt track or in a field or in the role of taking a boat to water or towing a trailer – the Viano 4MATIC is in its element with any such task.

Its permanent all-wheel drive could hardly be more user-friendly: even in tricky situations, all that is required of the driver is judicious use of the accelerator − the rest is taken care of by sophisticated electronic traction systems. The all-wheel drive is perfectly integrated into the standard-equipment ESP Electronic Stability Programme. All-wheel drive and safety systems complement each other to produce a unique drive and safety system capable of satisfying the most exacting needs.

The 4MATIC all-wheel drive is available in combination with the new CDI four-cylinder engines with power outputs of 100 kW (136 hp) and 120 kW (163 hp). The result is a synthesis of a powerful drive and a modern, economical, smooth-running, clean engine equipped as standard with a particulate filter compliant with the Euro 5 emissions standard.

Refined all-rounder with high-grade equipment specification
The high-grade interior of the Viano 4MATIC confirms the impression of a thoroughly refined all-rounder capable of giving reliable support to the driver, including when the going gets tricky. The ergonomic instrument panel boasts a high-grade specification: from the Ambiente equipment line up, for example, the Viano 4MATIC is pleasing to both sight and touch with its four-spoke multifunction steering wheel trimmed in nappa leather for superior grip.

In the rear, the Viano 4MATIC welcomes its passengers with a spacious passenger compartment offering a pleasant atmosphere. It combines the high functionality of the flexible interior with an air of refinement, noticeable from , among other things, the well-thought-out ambience illumination. Whatever the version, it is a pleasure to travel in the Viano 4MATIC − regardless of whether the focus is on practicality, as in the Viano Fun, on elegance, as in the Viano Trend, or on luxury, as in the Viano Ambiente. Available in three length variants as well as in a range of different passenger-compartment layouts, the Viano 4MATIC satisfies every wish for a cultivated ride, whether it is a family or a business user travelling from A to B.

This impression of superior comfort is underlined by the comfort and safety of the suspension in the latest generation of the Viano 4MATIC, which is also quieter than ever before.

Viano 4MATIC: comfortable permanent all-wheel drive
The especially comfortable permanent all-wheel drive in the Viano 4MATIC provides maximum driving stability in many different situations: when starting off, accelerating and cornering, on ice, in snow, with leaves on the road, in wet conditions or on poor roads or when towing a trailer. The driver’s job could hardly be easier: all that is required is measured use of accelerator and steering wheel − the rest is taken care of by the traction control system. The all-wheel drive system is based on the Mercedes-Benz 4ETS Electronic Traction System, which has proven highly effective, for example, in the ML-Class. Although all-wheel drive does not transform the Viano 4MATIC into a cross-country vehicle, it does guarantee maximum tractive power − and thus safety − when the going gets tricky.

With the Viano 4MATIC’s permanent four-wheel drive, under normal driving conditions the power from the engine is transmitted to the front and rear axles in a 35:65 ratio. This guarantees a handling which, in everyday situations, does not differ significantly from that of the conventional rear-wheel-drive Viano.

The traction system takes the place of up to three differential locks
Instead of using mechanical differential locks, the all-wheel drive system employs the 4ETS Electronic Traction System. If one or more wheels lose traction on a slippery surface, 4ETS automatically brakes the spinning wheels by applying a series of short pulses while consequently increasing the drive torque at the wheels with good traction by a similar amount. The 4ETS system uses the ABS wheel sensors for this purpose. Automatic application of the brakes by 4ETS is capable of simulating the effect of up to three differential locks: interaxle differential lock, rear-axle differential lock and front-axle differential lock.

The transfer case is flanged directly onto the main gearbox. The front-axle drive, which is of highly compact design, is provided with a lifetime oil fill and is maintenance-free, as are the additional front-axle drive shafts, which have only a small articulation angle in the interests of a longer service life. The new front-axle subframe is designed to provide the same exemplary crash performance in the Viano 4MATIC. Wear is reduced by a new mounting of the front-axle drive unit and an increased oil volume. Helical gearing of the differential results in improved smoothness of operation.

Full integration into the Adaptive ESP stability programme
The 4ETS system is fully integrated into the ADAPTIVE ESP Electronic Stability Programme. While its control characteristics are specially matched to the all-wheel drive, all the functions of the ADAPTIVE ESP are retained: ABS anti-lock braking system, ASR acceleration skid control, EBV electronic brake-force distribution, BAS brake assist and AAS start-off assist. In combination with a factory-installed trailer tow hitch, the system is rounded off by the Trailer Stability Assist system, which counteracts fishtailing movements of the trailer by means of selective application of the brakes. The interaction between 4MATIC and ESP functions to perfection: the vehicle is stabilised and brought back onto course.

Although the Viano 4MATIC is not a fully fledged cross-country vehicle, it is certainly no mean performer in off-road conditions. Thanks to its raised body, the approach angle is 20 degrees (conventional drive: 14 degrees) while, in the variant with short wheelbase and short overhang, the departure angle is 28 degrees (conventional drive: 22 degrees). The breakover angle – which is important for driving over humps – is 19 degrees in the Viano 4MATIC with short wheelbase and is otherwise 14 degrees. The ground clearance is 150 mm at the front axle and approximately 210 mm at the rear. Depending on engine version, the hill climbing capability is around 20 percent higher than in the Viano with a conventional drive system.

The Viano 4MATIC fits in the garage
The additional weight of the all-wheel drive comes to just 80 kg. As the all-wheel drive raises the overall height by only just under 70 mm depending on model, the Viano 4MATIC still has an overall height of less than two metres, allowing it to fit into normal garages, multi-storey car parks and car washes – a key factor with regard to total flexibility and suitability for everyday use. The Viano Marco Polo camper van with its pop-up roof is the only model to minimally exceed the two-metre mark.

On the road, the Viano 4MATIC impresses with its exemplary driving stability and perfect traction. It conveys an air of safety and effortless superiority typical of the brand. As the vehicle starts off, the rear wheels first spin briefly if there is limited traction. The warning lamp flashes at any speed if at least one tyre has exceeded the grip limit. For optimum traction, the driver should select an increased accelerator position at lower speeds despite the flashing warning lamp. The 4ETS system automatically controls the wheel slip and optimum locking power on each individual wheel.

ASR disengageable for certain driving situations
Depending on the driving situation, it may be advisable to disengage the ASR acceleration skid control, which can be done at the touch of a button. This briefly raises the control thresholds so as to increase the traction by increasing the wheel slip, which is of advantage, for example, when snow chains are being used or when the vehicle is being driven on a gravel road. The ASR system is automatically reactivated at speeds between 40 and 60 km/h. The same is true if the wheel slip exceeds permissible limits or after more than ten seconds in ASR Off mode. ESP remains active even if ASR has been deactivated.

In any case, 4ETS prevents critical driving situations from arising. For instance, with increasing vehicle speed, the locking effect on the axle is reduced in order to prevent yaw (rotation about the vertical axis) in the interests of driving stability. Also, the braking torque on all wheels is controlled in such a way that braking torque is almost always applied on no more than three wheels. If the total slip of all wheels exceeds the computed slip, 4ETS reduces the drive torque from the engine. Despite such interventions, there is no possibility of the braking system overheating: if, under extreme off-road conditions, the temperature of the brakes rises to excessively high values, 4ETS automatically reduces the locking effect until the brakes have cooled down again. The driver is made aware of this by an indicator lamp.

Powerful engines with BlueEFFICIENCY technology
Clean and extremely fuel-efficient with outstanding performance: the Mercedes-Benz Viano is powered by the new generation of diesel engines from Mercedes-Benz. The new Viano sets a new benchmark in terms of environmental compatibility: all engines comply with the Euro 5 emissions standard. At the same time, low fuel consumption means reduced CO2 emissions. This is where a key role is played by BlueEfficiency technology, which is standard equipment of these vehicles.

Highly advanced, smooth-running engines
Both diesel engines are equipped with an oxidizing catalytic converter, a particulate filter and cooled exhaust gas recirculation. The Viano 4MATIC comes in two variants of the new CDI four-cylinder engine with 2.15-litre displacement:

- Viano CDI 2.0 4MATIC
Output: 100 kW (136 hp) at 3800 rpm Max. Torque: 310 Nm at 1400-2400 rpm
- Viano CDI 2.2 4MATIC
Output: 120 kW (163 hp) at 3800 rpm Max. Torque: 360 Nm at 1600-2400 rpm

The long-stroke engines impress with their high tractive power. The two overhead camshafts operate a total of 16 intake and exhaust valves. Camshaft drive is through a combination of gearwheels and a short chain, a basis for virtually unlimited durability.

Particularly broad useful engine speed range
A common-rail system takes care of fuel injection, which is done with extreme precision by especially durable solenoid valves and seven-hole injection nozzles. Both engine variants include a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. The combination of a rated speed of 3800 rpm and high torque even at low engine speeds results in an exceptionally wide useful engine speed range between approximately 1500 and 4000 revolutions per minute. This is highly advantageous especially in off-road conditions since, thanks to its engine characteristics, the transmission requires only few gearshifts, which would otherwise mean loss of power and consequently, traction in off-road situations.

The combination of common-rail injection, rear camshaft drive and two counter-rotating balancer shafts results in outstandingly smooth running.

BlueEFFICIENCY reduces fuel consumption
BlueEFFICIENCY technology, standard for the Viano, lowers both fuel consumption and emissions. Battery management, tyres with optimised rolling resistance, ECO power steering pump, on-demand regulation of fuel pump and in-engine measures are hallmarks of the state of the art, also in the Viano 4MATIC.

Automatic transmission and all-wheel drive – a perfect combination
The power from the Viano 4MATIC’s engine is transmitted as standard by the Mercedes-Benz five-speed automatic transmission, which is not only especially driver-friendly but also tried and tested a million times over. Its character is in perfect harmony with the Viano 4MATIC and its chassis and suspension set-up, which is tuned for comfort. It also provides the driver with significant advantages particularly in off-road conditions. Thanks to 4ETS, the driver can let the all-wheel drive take care of itself, while the automatic transmission dispenses with the need to select the appropriate gear. . As a consequence the driver can concentrate fully on the road ahead.

Viano 4MATIC – customised all-wheel drive
A host of optional equipment packages allow the Viano 4MATIC to be tailored to suit specific applications in which the all-wheel drive is able to come into its own. The “Bike” package with mounted cycle rack is the right choice for those wishing to use the Viano 4MATIC as a recreational vehicle, including off the beaten track. The “Business” package includes, for example, the COMAND APS navigation system and a refrigerator box – an ideal option for the businessman who needs to reach his destination on time regardless of road or weather conditions.

Users who frequently have to drive off-road will appreciate the increased traction afforded by M+S tyres and will also wish to carry a fully-fledged spare wheel for added safety (possible from the “long” variant up). In combination with a trailer tow hitch for max. 2.5 tonnes trailer load, the Viano 4MATIC presents itself as a towing vehicle with high tractive power. Hot-water auxiliary heating guarantees a feeling of well-being on board during breaks while also enabling the Viano 4MATIC on-board temperature to be adjusted prior to use.
A navigation system directs the driver reliably to his destination. Breaks en route can be enjoyed at the folding table or with a refreshment from the refrigerator box. For recreational users, there are roof rails and matching carrier systems for transporting skis or snowboards to winter holiday destinations – the requisite traction for travel by road is guaranteed.

Viano 4MATIC: all-wheel drive in many forms
The Viano 4MATIC can be ordered in all three length variants “compact”, “long” and “extra-long”. It is also available in the equipment lines Viano Trend and Viano Ambiente as well as for the Viano Marco Polo recreational vehicle.

4MATIC all-wheel drive is available in combination with CDI four-cylinder engines with a power output of 100 kW (136 hp) or 120 kW (163 hp). 4MATIC all-wheel drive is always in combination with automatic transmission, affording a superior driving experience in virtually all conditions. A variety of seating arrangements and equipment combinations for the Viano 4MATIC results in an extensive line-up of variants to suit virtually every conceivable application. In all cases the permissible gross vehicle weight of the Viano 4MATIC is 3050 kg.

The Viano’s feel-good cockpit
A clearly laid-out dashboard with easy-to-read instruments – the Viano is a real driver’s automobile. Whether it’s the look and feel of the materials or the quality of the workmanship – the Viano fully meets passenger-car standards. Driver and passengers are accommodated in anatomically formed seats with attractively-designed upholstery.

Something for everyone: the Viano’s numerous equipment lines
Versatility is the hallmark of the Viano’s rear passenger compartment. In the Viano Trend and Ambiente, individual seats, which are adjustable on rails, removable and fitted with integral seat belts, head restraints and armrests, provide each passenger with their own personal space. Up to six passengers can be accommodated in the interior in individual seats (up to eight passengers in combination with two three-passenger bench seats). The individual seats can be moved or taken out if lots of luggage or bulky objects need to be transported.

In the “compact” variant, the rear of the Viano Fun features a movable three-passenger bench seat, folding table and swivelling front seats. The “long” variant of the Viano Fun has an extra single seat. In both variants, the bench can be folded into a fully reclining position or removed. The Viano Marco Polo comes with a full complement of camper-van equipment from cabinet to kitchenette and pop-up roof.

Elegant and of superior quality – trim, fabric and leather
Especially high-quality interior trim is a hallmark of the Viano Trend and Ambiente, and optionally also the Viano Fun. The scope of appointments includes optimised stowage facilities and carpeting. In addition to providing for a cosy appearance, the carpeting also prevents scratches and knocks when the vehicle comes in for tough use.

In addition to attractive fabrics and stylish leather covers, the consummately stylish appearance of the nappa leather in fluted design, which goes by the name of Lugano in the Viano Ambiente, is deserving of special mention. This upholstery is complemented by decorative trim in a fine burr walnut finish.
The well-conceived ambience illumination is at the heart of the lighting concept in the Viano Trend and Ambiente (optional in the Viano Fun). A total of six light sources in the footwell illuminate the floor of the Viano. The upper area of the rear compartment is illuminated by interior lights installed in the hand-grip recesses.

Carefully chosen appointments, sporty atmosphere
This stylish appearance is continued in the interior. The driver and front passenger have the luxury of comfortable, sporty seats with enhanced lateral support and the finest leather upholstery with distinctive piping. There is a choice of either “Lugano” leather or the new, exclusive “Twin DINAMICA” leather. The cockpit features eye-catching white instrument lighting and a sports pedal cluster of brushed stainless steel with rubber studs. The decor strips are in a black and brown burr walnut look.

Passengers in the rear are seated on four individual seats which likewise have stylish and comfortable leather upholstery in a piped design. These seats too are specially padded for increased lateral support. The decorative inserts in the side panels are also in leather, with decor strips in a burr walnut look. The rail-mounted individual seats can be moved in increments of 25 mm, and feature integral three-point seat belts, height-adjustable head restraints and adjustable armrests.

Dynamic V6 engines, specially configured sports suspension
The Viano Avantgarde Edition 125 is powered by Mercedes-Benz V6 engines that harmonise perfectly with the sporty appearance. These are unrivalled in this vehicle class. The V6 CDI 3.0 combines power and environmental protection with its output of 165 kW (224 hp) and a remarkable torque of 440 Nm. BlueEfficiency technology lowers fuel consumption and CO2 emissions to a surprisingly low level. NEDC fuel consumption is just 8.5-8.6 l/100 km – a very respectable figure considering the vehicle’s performance and dimensions. The 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine available as an alternative delivers 190 kW (258 hp) for outstanding acceleration and the utmost refinement.

The performance of both versions is outstanding. The V6 CDI 3.0 accelerates to 100 km/h in just 9.1 seconds, reaching a top speed of 201 km/h. Corresponding figures for the V6 3.5 are 10.4 seconds and 217 km/h.

Power is transferred to the rear axle via an automatic transmission. The already extremely predictable and comfortable suspension of the Viano has been given a particularly sporty setup for the Avantgarde Edition 125, and meets the highest expectations with respect to handling dynamics.

The Mercedes-Benz Viano Avantgarde Edition 125 will be available in the spring in two body lengths – “Compact” and “Long”.

Dynamism, comfort and sportiness – the new Mercedes-Benz Viano Avantgarde Edition 125 embodies these three terms like no other large-capacity vehicle. It combines an unmistakeable exterior look with selected equipment and appointments and a dynamic drive system, making it the top model in its class. The Edition 125 of the Viano Avantgarde represents the perfect blend of MPV, saloon and sports car.

With its extrovert appearance the avant-garde vehicle in its class
The look of the Viano Avantgarde’s Edition 125 is certainly nothing for wallflowers; it symbolises the avant-garde in its class. It is shod in exquisite 16-spoke high-sheen 8J x 19 light-alloy wheels, whilst the high-gloss chromed exterior mirror housings plus side skirts and chrome trim on the front bumper and chromed rear trim on the tailgate highlight the special styling. The model is available in the metallic paintwork variants obsidian black or brilliant silver.

Selected equipment and appointments, sporty ambience
The stylish look continues in the interior: the driver and front passenger will feel at home on seats that are as comfortable as they are sporty, featuring the finest leather cover with a piping design, plus increased lateral support. Customers can choose from “Lugano” leather or the new exclusive “Twin DINAMICA” microfibre surface. The cockpit is equally impressive, with its white scale illumination for the instruments, and sports pedals in brushed stainless steel with rubber studs. The decorative strips have a black or brown burr-walnut look.

There are four individual seats for the passengers in the rear and these also feature leather covers with a piping design, and are both stylish and comfortable. These seats, too, boast special padding with increased lateral support. The inserts in the side trim panels are also in leather, whilst the decorative strips sport a burr-walnut look. The individual seats mounted on rails can be moved in 25-mm steps and include integral three-point seat belts, height-adjustable head restraints and adjustable armrests.

Dynamic V6 engines, specially tuned sports suspension
The dynamic drive system featuring V6 engines from Mercedes-Benz is the perfect match for the Viano Avantgarde Edition 125’s sporty appearance. The units are unique in this vehicle class: the V6 CDI 3.0 with an output of 165 kW (224 hp) and its extraordinary traction of 440 Nm combines power with consideration for the environment. BlueEFFICIENCY technology reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions to a surprisingly low level, with fuel consumption in accordance with the NEDC amounting to a mere 8.5-8.6 l/100 km or 224-226 CO2 (g/km) – a very respectable figure in view of the vehicle size and performance. The V6 petrol engine which is available as an alternative has a displacement of 3.5 l and achieves 190 kW (258 hp), blending its torquey temperament with extremely smooth running characteristics.

Performance reaches a unique level in both variants. The V6 CDI 3.0 accelerates to 100 km/h in only 9.1 s and achieves a top speed of 201 km/h. For the V6 3.5 the figures are 10.4 s and 217 km/h.

Power transmission to the rear axle is via an automatic transmission. The Viano was already characterised by its high degree of handling safety and comfortable suspension, and it has now been particularly sportily tuned especially for the Edition 125 of its Avantgarde model, meeting the most discerning of standards when it comes to driving dynamics.

The Edition 125 of the Mercedes-Benz Viano Avantgarde is available from the spring in two different lengths: “compact” and “long”.

The rear-wheel drive has benefited the Mercedes-Benz Viano’s driving dynamics and handling ever since the model series was first introduced. The new Viano now impresses with a completely new chassis concept. This new chassis raises the benchmark for ride comfort and driving safety to a new level. The Viano continues to lead the way, offering an unparalleled high standard of safety and an unmatched scope of assistance systems as part of the standard equipment.

Completely reconfigured new chassis
While the Viano’s front axle continues to be based on independent wheel suspension with spring struts, Mercedes-Benz has carried out a complete redesign of the axle’s finer points of detail. The host of new elements cover suspension springs and spring retainers, supporting bearings and suspension strut towers, transverse links including bearings, anti-roll bar and bearings. The modified axle setting ensures improved response. The steering additionally employs a new characteristic and a different torsion bar.

A similar situation applies to the driven rear axle. Here too, the sophisticated basic design involving independent wheel suspension on semi-trailing arms has been retained, but the development engineers have completely reconfigured the springs, auxiliary springs and shock absorbers and designed new bearings for the shock absorbers. The new bearings for the control arms have been designed with a special emphasis on comfort, with separated functions for longitudinal and lateral forces. The anti-roll bar and its bearings are also new developments.

Unmatched comfortable and safe handling
These developments provide for extremely precise, predictable and safe handling accompanied by outstanding comfort, running characteristics and noise levels. The Vanio offers the very highest standards of ride comfort, driving enjoyment and driving safety. Such all-round quality can only be topped by the air suspension including automatic level control on the rear axle, which remains available ex-factory.

Ultra-quiet travel in the greatest of comfort
Noise has also come in for close attention. Extensive computer simulations and ongoing monitoring of the results on the actual vehicle have enabled a marked reduction in noise levels. The balancer shafts in the new four-cylinder diesel variant ensure that so-called “second-order” vibrations are eliminated at source. The entire vehicle was subsequently analysed after eliminating these vibrations, giving rise to a diverse range of measures: absorbers in the interior and on the rear axle, specific reinforcement of the body structure, improved insulation and modified seals provide for ultra-quiet travel in the greatest of comfort.

No luggage restrictions: marked increase in payload reserves
There are no luggage constrictions to be considered when packing for journeys in the versatile and flexible Mercedes-Benz Viano. The development engineers have raised the permissible gross vehicle weight, accompanied by increases in the payload which are quite substantial in some instances. The permissible gross vehicle weight now totals 2.80 t (previously 2.77 t) as standard, while for the extra-long variants it stands at 3.05 t (previously 2.94 t) following the introduction of the new generation. According to model variant, the increase in payload may amount to as much as 100 kg.

Safe and sound – and a treat for the eyes
Comfort and safety in an attractive guise: the Ambiente variant of the Viano now runs as standard on five-spoke 17-inch light-alloy wheels fitted with 225/55 R 17 tyres (previously 16-inch wheels with 225/60 R 16 tyres). This wheel and tyre combination is available for the other models as an option.

Powerful brakes and a host of invisible safety features
The Mercedes-Benz Viano comes with an unparalleled range of safety and assistance systems as standard. All models feature a brake system with powerful and robust disc brakes on all wheels, electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and adaptive brake lights which display an emergency braking signal when the brakes are fully applied.

Numerous invisible safety features are also on board. The ESP Electronic Stability Programme with anti-lock braking system (ABS), acceleration skid control (ASR) and brake assist (BAS) is obligatory for all Viano models. Vehicles which are factory-fitted with a trailer coupling come with trailer stabilisation (also known as “trailer ESP) as standard. Start-off Assist (AAS), an automatic tyre pressure monitoring system, the PARKTRONIC parking and manoeuvring assistant and a reversing camera are optionally available to supplement the Viano’s comprehensive range of comfort and safety features.

Safety equipment to the very highest standard
In the event of an accident, the Mercedes-Benz Viano is also provided with the highest standard of safety equipment to limit the consequences. The driver’s and front passenger’s seats are provided with height-adjustable three-point seat belts, belt tensioners, belt force limiters, seat belt reminders and four-way head restraints. Driver and front passenger airbags also feature as standard. Optional extras include thorax sidebags (standard in the Viano Ambiente) and windowbags. All passenger seats are fitted with integrated three-point seat belts and four-way head restraints.

As in passenger cars, for families with small children a label on the side bolsters now indicates the seats which are provided with standardised anchor points for child seats.

Clean, extremely economical and top performers: the Mercedes-Benz Viano is equipped with the new generation of diesel engines from Mercedes-Benz. Hundreds of thousands of these engines have already proven their worth in diverse Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and in the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van.

The new Viano leads the way in environmental friendliness, with all engines meeting the Euro 5 emissions standard. Markedly reduced fuel consumption also lowers CO2 emissions to an exemplary minimal level. The BlueEFFICIENCY technology which features as standard plays a special role here. This innovative package is not to be found in any other large-capacity vehicle.

All diesel engines are equipped with an oxidation catalytic converter, a particulate filter and cooled exhaust gas recirculation. The new ECO Gear manual transmission offers a broad gear ratio spread for optimum performance and enables low fuel consumption and emission levels. The overall result is impressive response and acceleration combined with outstanding environmental friendliness, smooth running and economy. Top of the range is the V6 in the Viano CDI 3.0, which combines smooth running with impressive output and high tractive power. The latest version of this engine is also more powerful, more economical and more environmentally friendly.

Four-cylinder CDI: top performance, smooth-running, low emissions
At the core of the new generation of engines is the four-cylinder in-line unit which has the internal code OM 651. It is available in two power variants for the Mercedes-Benz Viano:

      Viano CDI 2.0
– Power output 100 kW (136 hp) at 3800 rpm
– Max torque 310 Nm at 1400-2600 rpm
– Fuel consumption in acc. with NEDC 7.24 l/100 km
– CO2 emissions 190 g/km
– Top speed 174 km/h
– Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 14.1 seconds
– Elasticity 60-100 km/h in fifth gear / 80-120 km/h in sixth gear: 12.5/18.2 seconds

      Viano CDI 2.2
– Power output 120 kW (163 hp) at 3800 rpm
– Max torque 360 Nm at 1600-2400 rpm
– Fuel consumption in acc. with NEDC 7.24 l/100 km
– CO2 emissions 190 g/km
– Top speed 188 km/h
– Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 12.18 seconds
– Elasticity 60-100 km/h in fifth gear / 80-120 km/h in sixth gear: 10.8/14.6 seconds

This represents a marked increase in power output and torque in comparison to the predecessor models. At the same time, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been reduced substantially – by up to 15 percent, depending on the engine variant. Apart from attaining surprisingly good values in absolute terms for its size and weight, the Viano clearly leads its class in terms of fuel economy and CO2 emissions.

Exceptionally high tractive power, durable chain-type camshaft drive
State-of-the-art engine technology provides the basis for the Viano’s exceptionally low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The high torque of the long-stroke engine with 83 mm bore and a stroke of 99 mm provides for unusually high tractive power. The two overhead camshafts actuate a total of 16 inlet and exhaust valves via cam followers with hydraulic valve clearance compensation. The camshafts are driven via a combination of gearwheels and a short chain, providing the robust basis for a virtually endless service life.

Fuel injection takes place by means of a common rail system. Particularly durable solenoid valves and seven-hole injection nozzles provide for extremely precise fuel injection, with up to four injections per combustion cycle. The benefits of this technology include a gentle build-up of pressure and a smooth-running engine. The maximum injection pressure stands at an impressive 1800 bar.

Charging is carried out in both power variants by a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry which combines high efficiency with swift response to movements of the accelerator pedal. Maximum torque is available right from very low engine speeds and over a broad rev range. Thanks to its combination of a rated engine speed of 3800 rpm and astounding elasticity, the four-cylinder engine has an unusually broad useful operating range between around 1000 and 4000 revs. This is unmatched by any other diesel engine in this class of vehicle.

Balancer shafts for all variants ensure the ultimate in smooth running
Common rail injection, the low-vibration forged crankshaft running on five bearings and the rear camshaft drive provide the foundation for surprisingly smooth-running engines. All four-cylinder engines also benefit from Lanchester balancing, with two counter-rotating shafts running under the crankcase driven by spur gears. Mercedes-Benz is the only manufacturer in this vehicle class to deploy balancer shafts in all four-cylinder engines of its large-capacity vehicles.

Unique: particularly economical demand-responsive auxiliary units
The development engineers have also devoted great attention to optimising the auxiliary units. The oil pump is a controlled vane-type pump featuring electrical actuation, for example. It controls its delivery rate automatically according to the given requirements. This reduces the power output, thereby lowering fuel consumption. The coolant pump also adjusts automatically to the given requirements, further helping to reduce fuel consumption.

Tuned to perfection: the ECO Gear six-speed manual transmission
The new ECO Gear six-speed manual transmission comes as standard for the Viano CDI 2.0 and CDI 2.2. This transmission is a substantial contributory factor to the reduced fuel consumption and further enhanced dynamic performance of the Viano CDI with four-cylinder engine. Its defining feature is a particularly broad gear ratio spread, with a short first gear (i=5.076) and a long sixth gear (i=0.675) designed to keep the engine speed low.

This configuration accords due consideration both to typical situations such as hill starts with a horse or boat trailer and to long journeys on the motorway. Overall, the engine speed has been reduced substantially in the interests of lower fuel consumption and emissions. Another consequence of this strategy is a noticeable improvement in ride comfort.

The particularly user-friendly and well-proven five-speed automatic transmission is alternatively available as an option for the Viano CDI 2.0 and Viano CDI 2.2. It comes as standard for the Viano 3.0 CDI and Viano 3.5.

V6 CDI: an impressive feat of engineering goes one better
The V6 engine in the Viano 3.0 CDI is an accomplished feat of engineering and a pinnacle of engine design from Mercedes-Benz. The only six-cylinder engine to be deployed in a large-capacity vehicle attains impressive performance data for a diesel in this class, providing the basis for a special driving experience. The engine is based on an aluminium crankcase with a V angle of 72 degrees. Thanks to offset connecting rod journals, the engine runs more smoothly than any other diesel in its class. The technical highlights include a total of four chain-driven overhead camshafts, common rail injection with piezo injectors and eight injection holes per injector for ultra-fine atomisation of the fuel.

The latest version of the engine in the Viano CDI 3.0 offers ten percent more power, at 165 kW (224 hp), and a highly impressive level of torque, at 440 Nm. It complies with the Euro 5 emissions standard. At the same time, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have fallen noticeably, by around five percent, and are surprisingly low in relation to the performance capabilities of the Viano CDI 3.0. Other enhancements of this latest version of the V6 include a maximum injection pressure of 1800 bar. Key data:

      Viano CDI 3.0
– Power output 165 kW (224 hp) at 3800 rpm
– Max. torque 440 Nm at 1800-2400 rpm
– Fuel consumption in acc. with NEDC 8.5 l/100 km
– CO2 emissions 223 g/km
– Top speed 201 km/h
– Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 9.1 seconds

Its impressive performance data, its unmatched smooth running and its admirably low fuel consumption and emission levels make the new generation of the Viano CDI 3.0 a unique contender in its class which meets the very highest standards. The engine comes exclusively with a well-proven and particularly user-friendly automatic transmission.

Viano 3.5: in a class of its own
The Viano 3.5 with its V6 petrol engine is also in a class of its own. The power delivery and smooth running of this six-cylinder engine are unmatched in any other large-capacity vehicle. The latest version of the Viano 3.5 complies with the Euro 5/l emissions standard. This engine also employs an automatic transmission. Key data:

      Viano CDI 3.5
– Power output 190 kW (258 hp) at 5900 rpm
– Max. torque 340 Nm at 2500-5000 rpm
– Fuel consumption in acc. with NEDC 11.9 l/100 km
– CO2 emissions 279 g/km
– Top speed 217 km/h
– Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 8.7 seconds

From study to reality: BlueEFFICIENCY as standard for clean and economical motoring
First announced by reference to a study at the 2008 Frankfurt International Motor Show, the vision of BlueEFFICIENCY technology has now become reality, reducing fuel consumption and emissions in the Mercedes-Benz Viano. It features on board every Viano as standard, as confirmed by a label below the A-pillar. The scope of the package is unique in the class of large-capacity vehicles: ECO start/stop function (not for automatic transmissions), battery management, tyres optimised for minimum rolling resistance, ECO power steering pump, shift point indicator (not for automatic transmissions), a controlled fuel pump and internal engine measures demonstrate the cutting-edge technology involved.

The BlueEFFICIENCY package which features as standard combines sustainability and economy in exemplary fashion. It further reduces the Viano’s traditionally low fuel consumption by an additional 0.2-0.3 litres per 100 km (6.6 g of CO2 per km) in the new generation, according to model and engine variant.

Long maintenance intervals also contribute to the Viano’s sustainability and economy. The Assyst service computer which comes as standard calculates the oil-change intervals on a flexible basis according to the actual use of the vehicle. The average interval across all engines stands at 30,000 km or two years. Higher mileages are also possible between oil changes, depending on the intensity of use and the individual driving style.

Robust and quiet: 4MATIC all-wheel drive further enhanced
The Viano 4MATIC with permanent all-wheel drive and variable power distribution by means of the 4ETS traction system also benefits from numerous innovations. A new bearing for the front-axle transmission and an increased oil volume reduce wear on the all-wheel drive. Helical gearing for the differential provides for smoother running. As previously, the Viano 4Matic is available exclusively in conjunction with the two power variants of the four-cylinder engine and automatic transmission (Viano CDI 2.0/2.2 4MATIC). The Viano 4MATIC now also complies with the Euro 5 emissions standard.

The Viano and its striking new front design
The new “face” of the Viano presents a yet more striking and distinctive look, in keeping with the style of the current passenger cars from Mercedes-Benz. Three slats painted in silver with chrome trims partition the radiator grille, fronting a sporty black grille featuring a diamond pattern. The radiator grille is offset by new reflector headlamps in a distinctive design. The reflector has been enlarged to increase the light output. The daytime driving lights which come as standard are integrated with their own light source in the headlamp housings, together with the fog lamps.

New: Bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime driving lights
The Viano is now optionally available with a combination of Bi-xenon headlamps, LED daytime driving lights, cornering lights, Add-Light system and a headlamp washer system. The cornering light is controlled via the indicator lever and is effective up to a speed of 40 km/h. The Add-Light system is active at speeds of up to 70 km/h, depending on the steering angle. The particularly extensive Viano Ambiente equipment line includes the Bi-xenon headlamps as standard.

The Viano’s bumper also comes in a new, upgraded design featuring a honeycomb look. The smooth and ungrained surface is painted in the vehicle’s exterior colour on all Viano model variants. The same applies to the three-piece rear bumper, which now extends lower to emphasize the Viano’s dynamism.

New tail lights, improved visibility for indicators
The new tail lights are positioned on the right and left above the bumper. The one-piece lights with an integrated black cover in glass look flank the Viano’s rear end. An advantage of the new four-compartment light incorporating tail lamp/brake light, indicator, reversing light and rear fog lamp is improved visibility for the indicator resulting from the use of a new reflector. This change and a different front bumper clearly distinguish the Mercedes-Benz Viano’s exterior appearance from that of the Vito, whose tail lights remain unaltered.

The Viano also sports numerous changes between the headlamps and tail lights. The maximum dimensional accuracy of the new fully galvanised steel wings ensures exact gap dimensions. For safety’s sake, the newly designed exterior mirrors with integrated side turn signals offer a larger field of vision. The exterior mirrors can now optionally fold in against the body when the driver leaves and locks the vehicle, to avoid damage in tight parking situations.

Different colours also contribute to the revamped appearance, with modern new paint finishes complementing the changes to the exterior of the Mercedes-Benz Viano.

A major plus: the numerous body variants of the Viano
Mercedes-Benz continues to offer the Viano as the only model in its class in three different body lengths:

    * Viano compact, length 4763 mm, wheelbase 3200 mm,
* Viano long, length 5008 mm, wheelbase 3200 mm, extended overhang,
* Viano extra-long, length 5238 mm, wheelbase 3430 mm, extended overhang.

In addition, the Mercedes-Benz Marco Polo camper van is based on the long Viano with a front-opening pop-up roof. This roof is also optionally available for the Viano Fun multi-purpose vehicle in its long variant.

All variants benefit from the full everyday practicality of the Mercedes-Benz Viano. With an overall height of just 1875 mm, every rear-wheel-drive Viano fits easily into standard garages, multi-storey car parks, underground car parks and car washes. The same even goes for the Viano Fun and the Viano Marco Polo with closed pop-up roof and a vehicle height of 1960 mm.

The list of innovations in the interior of the new Viano is long, including such special treats such as ambient lighting or ingenious details such as an additional power socket. The host of new features all boil down to added comfort and an even more stylish overall character.

Individual, practical, convenient – the Viano’s feel-good cockpit
The clear layout of the instrument panel and the clearly legible instruments have been retained – there are some things which simply defy improvement. The shift lever is new, however, featuring a high-gloss badge and chrome surround. In the upper control panel on the centre console, pushbuttons have replaced the previous rocker switches to facilitate intuitive operation while at the same time providing a more attractive appearance. The seat heating is now more finely adjustable, offering three levels as opposed to the previous two. The overhead control unit has been upgraded with two reading lamps and a polished finish. On vehicles equipped with rear air conditioning, corresponding new controls are also incorporated together with a display.

Numerous new items of equipment enhance the Viano, offering scope for individualisation and assistance above all for the driver. The front-passenger seat base now incorporates an additional 12 V socket to supply power to electronic devices. Alternatively, the Viano is available with a lockable valuables compartment (standard in Viano Marco Polo). A rearview camera is optionally available as a practical reversing aid in conjunction with the COMAND system. Its lens is integrated in the licence plate panel on the tailgate. When reverse gear is engaged, the camera picture is displayed on the COMAND screen, with superimposed lines providing additional assistance for the driver.

The standard scope of equipment for the Viano Trend and all models higher in the range now includes a four-spoke multifunction steering wheel with new control buttons and matt chromed spoke trims, similar to the steering wheel of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Cutting-edge audio and video equipment
A new generation of radios is being introduced into all Viano variants, guaranteeing the best in information and entertainment. A Bluetooth hands-free system and a CD/DVD drive come as standard throughout the range, as does an Aux connection for separate devices. The top-of-the-range audio systems feature the new generation of voice control which goes by the name of Lingatronic, for radio, CD player/CD changer and navigation system. The new convenience telephony system is available as an alternative to the Bluetooth hands-free system, featuring a fixed telephone console, roof antenna and optimum voice quality.

The optional pre-installation for the Rear Seat Entertainment system provides the basis for keeping rear passengers informed and entertained. The Viano covers the full spectrum of media wishes, from an entertaining film for the kids to an informative presentation for business associates. On request, it can be fitted at the factory with the corresponding wiring and mountings for devices in the roof liner. Hinged roof liner systems, monitors, DVD players and infrared headphones are available through Mercedes-Benz Accessories and can be fitted by authorised Mercedes-Benz workshops.

Elegant, stylish and exclusive: the new Lugano leather upholstery
The Viano offers seat covers in a new design for the driver and passengers. In addition to the attractive fabrics and stylish nappa leather covers in various colours, the new nappa leather upholstery in the Viano which goes by the name of Lugano is deserving of special mention. Available in three colours, its grain finish and piping design provide for a consummately stylish appearance. This upholstery is complemented by decorative trims in fine burr walnut finish. The Lugano nappa leather upholstery comes as standard in the Viano Ambiente and is optionally available for the Viano Trend. In the Viano Fun and Marco Polo the leather is available in orion grey.

New, high-quality interior panelling and trims are available as standard in the Viano Trend and Ambiente and as an option in the Viano Fun to embellish the interior’s appearance and further enhance the great functionality which is integral to the Viano. The scope of appointments includes optimised stowage facilities and carpeting. In addition to providing for a comfortable appearance, the high-quality carpeting also prevents scratches and knocks when the vehicle comes in for tough use – also in the load compartment. Side wall panelling and carpeting come in anthracite, while the middle sections sport the colour of the interior appointments.

Stylish and cosy: the new lighting concept with ambient system
The well-conceived ambient lighting system forms the core of the new lighting concept in the Viano Trend and Ambiente (optional in Viano Fun). A total of six light sources in the footwell illuminate the floor of the Viano. This lighting is dimmed while the vehicle is in motion. Additional new interior lights are installed in the handle recesses at the rear. Fibre-optic cables also make up part of the ambient lighting. These discreetly illuminate the handle recesses while the vehicle is in motion and combine with the footwell lighting to conjure up a stylish and cosy atmosphere on board. The familiar interior lighting is also integrated in the handle recesses, together with new reading lights which can be operated individually. The latter present an elegant appearance in modern clear-glass look with a chrome ring.

The Viano’s interior designers have paid close attention to every last detail, as revealed by apparently minor features such as the new inside handle for the sliding door, whose new position renders it more accessible and markedly reduces the level of effort required to open the door. The rails to which the rear seats are fitted have been provided with rubber lips. In addition to lending the floor a more elegant appearance, these also facilitate installation and removal of the seats.

Lines and packages redefined
Mercedes-Benz has also redefined the established lines and equipment packages in some areas. The Viano Ambiente, which has always featured a particularly broad scope of equipment, now additionally features Bi-Xenon headlamps as standard, for example, together with cornering lights, LED daytime driving lights, headlamp washer system and light-alloy wheels in size 7J x 17.

The previous Comfort Plus package for the Viano Fun has now been succeeded by the COMFORT FUN package. The otherwise unaltered scope of equipment including such treats as electric rear vent windows and an additional heat exchanger has now been extended to include a new multifunction steering wheel with trip computer.

Viano Marco Polo: innovative features for the yacht on wheels
The new generation of the compact Viano Marco Polo recreational vehicle and camper van also benefits from a number of new features. The established layout incorporating a generously sized kitchenette and cupboard unit on the left-hand side in the direction of travel with practical roller shutters has been retained, along with the unique movable seating system featuring electrically adjustable individual seats and electropneumatically inflatable side bolsters. New surface finishes and trims lend the living area in the Viano Marco Polo a quality feel and appearance.

Optional flooring in wood look, similar to the flooring on an exclusive yacht, further embellishes the Viano Marco Polo at the rear. In addition to its homely yet stylish appearance, this floor covering is also hard-wearing and requires little care.

Two bright and particularly efficient LED lamps in the rear of the Viano Marco Polo and the Viano Fun are an additional new feature, replacing the previous fluorescent lamp. The new lamps provide bright light as soon as they are switched on, illuminate the interior more effectively and consume markedly less power – an important factor when mains power remains out of reach for prolonged periods. The bed extension forming a head section over the luggage compartment of the Viano Marco Polo can now be raised in stages with the aid of a strap and a support. This additional feature provides an additional noticeable enhancement to the good standard of sleeping comfort.

A second reading lamp now comes as standard in the Viano Marco Polo fitted with the optional roof bed and in the Viano Fun with pop-up roof. This provides for added comfort by enabling more individual lighting arrangements when the roof bed is in use by two people.

Even the key to the Viano sports a new design
The new key featuring a stylish chrome clasp symbolises the high-quality interior and provides drivers with a subtle foretaste of the numerous innovations which await them inside the Mercedes-Benz Viano.

The Mercedes-Benz Viano leads its class, defining the new benchmark for large-capacity vehicles. New engines and new transmissions reduce emissions and fuel consumption while enhancing performance. The new chassis offers the ultimate in ride comfort and driving safety. The cockpit and passenger compartment are more user-friendly and attractively appointed than ever. The Viano is instantly recognisable by its “face”, featuring the Mercedes star in the style of the current passenger cars, and a newly designed rear section.

Drive system: environmentally friendly engines featuring BlueEFFICIENCY technology
The central innovation featuring in the latest Viano is a completely new drive offering particularly environmentally friendly operation. All engines comply with the Euro 5 emissions standard. Fuel consumption has been reduced once again, accompanied by cuts of up to 15 percent in CO2 emissions, depending on the engine variant. In addition to the new ECO Gear six-speed manual transmission, the BlueEFFICIENCY technology with ECO start/stop which comes as standard also plays a special role here. This innovative package is not to be found in any other large-capacity vehicle. The new four-cylinder engines with variable turbine geometry generate a power output of 100 kW (136 hp) in the Viano CDI 2.0 and 120 kW (163 hp) in the Viano CDI 2.2, with balancer shafts ensuring extremely smooth running.

All diesel engines are equipped with an oxidation catalytic converter, a particulate filter and cooled exhaust gas recirculation. The new ECO Gear six-speed manual transmission for all four-cylinder models offers a broad gear ratio spread for optimum performance and enables low fuel consumption and emission levels.
Top of the range among the diesel engines is the V6 in the Viano CDI 3.0, which combines smooth running with impressive output and high tractive power. With a power output of 165 kW (224 hp), it now offers even better performance, while combining economy with environment-friendliness. The Viano 3.5 and its V6 petrol engine rated at 190 kW (258 hp) offer superior power and comfort.

Chassis: the very highest standard of ride comfort and driving safety
The rear-wheel drive has benefited the Mercedes-Benz Viano’s driving dynamics and handling ever since the model series was first introduced. The new Viano impresses with a completely new chassis concept. Both the front and rear axles have only their basic construction in common with the previous models. The new chassis defines a new standard in ride comfort and driving safety in the Viano’s class. The Viano continues to lead the way, offering an unparalleled high standard of safety and an unmatched scope of assistance systems as part of the standard scope of equipment.

Interior: upgraded appointments, ultra-quiet travel
The list of innovations featuring in the interior of the new Viano is long, including such special treats such as ambient lighting or ingenious details such as an additional power socket. The host of new features all boil down to added comfort and an even more stylish overall character.

The Viano’s cockpit is more attractive than ever, sporting a new shift lever, pushbuttons in the upper control panel of the centre console and an overhead control unit, for example. Numerous new items of equipment enhance the Viano, offering added scope for individualisation and assistance first and foremost for the driver. The standard scope of equipment for the Viano Trend and all models higher in the range now includes a four-spoke multifunction steering wheel with new control buttons and matt chromed spoke trims. The steering wheel and shift lever knob are covered in a nappa leather which is particularly pleasant to the touch. A new generation of radios is being introduced into all Viano variants. The optional pre-installation for the Rear Seat Entertainment system provides the basis for information and entertainment for rear passengers. The Viano covers the full spectrum of media wishes, from an entertaining film for the kids to an informative presentation for business associates.

New interior panelling is available as standard in the Viano Trend and Ambiente and as an option in the Viano Fun to enhance the interior’s appearance and further enhance the great functionality which is integral to the Viano. High-quality nappa leather, chrome applications and new surface finishes conjure up a congenial atmosphere on board. The well-conceived ambient lighting system featuring six light sources in the footwell and fibre-optic cables in the handle recesses at the rear forms the core element of the new lighting concept in the Viano.

Noise levels have also come in for close attention. Extensive computer simulations and ongoing monitoring of the results on the actual vehicle have enabled a marked reduction in interior noise levels. The various measures such as additional absorbers, specific reinforcement of the body structure, improved insulation and modified seals provide for ultra-quiet travel.

Exterior: the Viano’s new look at front and rear
The exterior of the new Viano also features numerous new highlights, from the radiator grille to the tail lights. The new “face” of the Viano features a yet more striking and distinctive look, in keeping with the style of the current passenger cars from Mercedes-Benz. New reflector headlamps offset the radiator grille. The daytime driving lights which come as standard are integrated with their own light source in the headlamp housings, together with the fog lamps. The new-generation Viano is optionally available with a combination of Bi-xenon headlamps, LED daytime driving lights, cornering lights, Add-Light system and a headlamp washer system.

The Viano’s bumpers also come in a new, upgraded design featuring a honeycomb look at the front, for example. The smooth surface is painted in the vehicle’s exterior colour. The new tail lights are positioned on the right and left above the rear bumper. The one-piece lights with an integrated black cover in glass look flank the Viano’s rear end.

The new generation of Mercedes-Benz Vito is a benchmark among vans. Its new drive system is extremely efficient and delivers top performance. The optionally available BlueEFFICIENCY technology offers the utmost in eco-friendly and economical driving.

</a

The Vito is also a star in terms of its improved payload and robust nature. Significantly reduced noise levels as well as the new suspension and an upgraded cockpit make handling and controls much simpler whilst also improving the vehicle's ergonomics.

Drive system: extremely economical and clean, optional BlueEFFICIENCY technology
Economic running thanks to low fuel consumption, low emissions thanks to emissions level Euro 5 – the new drive system in the Mercedes-Benz Vito demonstrates just what vans fitted with the latest technology are capable of. CO2 emissions and fuel consumption have been reduced by up to 15 percent compared with the previous models, giving record figures.

In conjunction with the sophisticated engineering of the current generation of four and six-cylinder Mercedes-Benz engines, this is achieved through BlueEFFICIENCY technology. This encompasses on-demand activation of major assemblies, an ECO start/stop system and optimised low-resistance tyres.

BlueEFFICIENCY technology is available as an option on the Vito. The new six-speed transmission, standard in combination with all four-cylinder diesel engines, also helps reduce emissions and fuel consumption. Its broad gear ratio spread allows excellent traction at low speeds, while at higher speeds revs and thus fuel consumption are reduced. The engine output of the Vito ranges to suit its spectrum of applications from 70 kW (95 hp) to 190 kW (258 hp).

Robust and resilient: payload capacity increased, suspension renewed
The character of the Mercedes-Benz Vito as a particularly robust and very functionally designed van is underlined by the new, sturdy bumpers. The Vito’s practicality in rough, everyday situations is further emphasised by a payload that has been increased, in some models quite significantly, and by a completely retuned chassis and suspension system. Both front and rear axles have been revised in every detail and specially tuned to match each specific model. Different suspension configurations are used for the high-payload panel van and the more comfort-oriented crewbus variant.

Improved comfort; noise levels considerably reduced
Not that comfort is by any means forgotten in the Mercedes-Benz Vito. The interior of the new-generation model offers simpler controls and a new colour concept. The quality feel of the passenger compartment has been improved quite noticeably and, in this context, noise levels could also be considerably reduced.
Visually, the new generation of Mercedes-Benz Vito can be identified by its new-style headlamps. The bumpers have also been modified.

The unique look of the Viano X-CLUSIVE conveys a feeling of dynamism and sportiness. The top-of-the-line Viano shows an individual profile with its radiator grille in silver look, specially developed design bumpers, side skirts, a chrome exhaust and distinctive light-alloy wheels.

The interior of the X-CLUSIVE pampers its occupants with a high level of comfort. Illuminated door treads and a soft carpet welcome the travellers, who can take their places in the six individual seats with anthracite-coloured leather. Both sliding doors are electrically operated and open and close at the touch of a button.

The dynamism and comfort of the Viano X-CLUSIVE are also expressed by the vehicle’s engine and chassis. Underneath the bonnet, the van is equipped with one of two high-performance six-cylinder engines, unique in the Viano’s class. The best possible safety is, of course, as much a feature of the Viano X-CLUSIVE as of any Viano.

From now on, every newly ordered Vito or Viano will be equipped with a new safety function at no extra cost: the “Adaptive Brake Light” ensures more safety in road traffic.

Improved warning effect for following traffic

During heavy braking from a vehicle speed greater than 50km/h, the Electronic Stability Program ESP® activates the new “Adaptive Brake Light” safety function, which makes the brake lights flash at a frequency of 3 Hz instead of just lighting up continuously. Once the danger has passed and the brake pedal is only held or slightly released by the driver, ESP® deactivates the “Adaptive Brake Light” and the brake lights light up continuously as usual.

These flashing brake lights ensure a higher level of attention on the part of following traffic.

Automatic activation of the hazard warning system
If the “Adaptive Brake Light” function is activated at a speed exceeding 70km/h, and remains active until the vehicle comes to a halt, the hazard warning system is automatically switched on when the vehicle stops. It can be manually switched off again at any time. Once the Vito or Viano begins to move at a speed over 10 km/h again, as often happens in dense moving traffic, the system switches the hazard warning lights off.
