New ministerial car for Winfried Kretschmann. The Minister President of Baden-Württemberg get the new car today in Immendingen.
„With CO2 emissions of just 65 g/km and fuel consumption of 2.8 l/100 km, my new ministerial car emits on average 50 g less CO2 and consumes on average 1.6 l less fuel, which is clearly below the levels of my last car. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class 500 PLUG-IN HYBRID clearly stands for sustainable mobility,“ explained Minister President Winfried Kretschmann during the presentation of his new ministerial car by Prof Dr Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG Group Research & Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.“ „My new ministerial car sets new standards in efficiency and environmental protection,“ according to Kretschmann.
„Although I’m not regarded as a great fan of cars, I think it’s fascinating how modern technology can increase an engine’s efficiency without compromising on its power and output,“ said Minister President Kretschmann. With its 85 kW electric drive, the new ministerial car can cover a distance of approx. 30 kilometres on the electric motor alone. The large lithium-ion battery can be charged externally through a charging outlet. The electric motor is combined with an efficient internal combustion engine, both of which can be operated individually or together.
Prof. Weber presented the new ministerial car to the Minister President of Baden-Württemberg as part of the official ground-breaking ceremony for the new Daimler test and technology centre in Immendingen: „The S 500 PLUG-IN HYBRID is the first of ten PLUG-IN HYBRID models that we will be introducing to the market up until 2017. The car proves that performance and outstanding efficiency are not mutually exclusive. We are very pleased that our Minister President will be making most of his official trips in a highly efficient, virtually silent, locally zero-emission vehicle.“ According to Weber, one of the reasons to expand the electric vehicle segment is the increasingly strict worldwide emission standards. „We believe that the PLUG-IN HYBRID will be the success technology for at least the next ten years.“
Despite the fact that his new ministerial car is clearly more environmentally friendly, Minister President Kretschmann will continue to use the B-Class F-CELL fuel cell car or the A-Class E-CELL to get around Stuttgart. „I’m very keen on keeping emissions as low as possible. That’s why the fuel cell car is perfect for getting around the city,“ explained Kretschmann.
