From the end of 2011, will be the new B-Class W246 series – first time in several variants – introduced. The market launch is expected, early 2012.
The engines of the new B-Class – for example the current 4-cylinder diesel engine OM 651 with twin turbo-charging – will continue to build transversely with front-wheel drive. In conjunction with a new developed seven-gear dual-clutch transmission, gets the new B-Class a start-stop system. A 4MATIC version of the B-Class is also planned.
The new B-Class is flatter as the actual version (W245). The sandwich base exists no longer, but a higher seating position, does not rule out entirely. In addition to the five-door model, will the B-Class complemented in future by a four-door coupe and a small SUV – a cabriolet was dropped off. The next generation of the A-Class will get a new technical platform, for example from the next Smart Fortwo with rear-wheel drive. Now, A- and B-Class are based on the same technical platform. The new series codes in detail: W246 B-Class successor, W176 A-Class successor, X156 small B-Class SUV and C117 B-Class 4-door Coupe.
Definitely coming from Rastatt, will the W176 and the W246. Preparations are under way. The W246 will be also built in Kecskemét/Hungary. The X156 (SUV) and the C117 (Coupe) comes later (the C117 is produced only in Hungary).
