After 34 days of speculation, it is now official: Michael Schumacher starts 2010 for Mercedes GP Petronas! This was announced at noon today, during a telephone conference with Norbert Haug, Ross Brawn and Michael Schumacher.

Schumacher signed a contract for 3 years, at the Mercedes F1 factory in Brackley (England) – the former home of Brawn GP – yesterday evening.

Schumacher led the negotiations with his longtime friend and Mercedes Team principal Ross Brawn – who was previously with Schumacher, Technical Director at Ferrari (1996-2006) and Benetton (1992-1995). Together, they won all 7 World Championship titles.

At the season opener on 14 March 2010 in Bahrain – 1239 days after his last race in Sao Paulo / Brasil – will Michael Schumacher fight for the first time for World Championship points. Together with his team-mate, the 24-year-old Nico Rosberg, he will be a pure german Formula 1 team. First test drives – if Mercedes GP gets an exceptional permission – are scheduled for January. Also in January, is the presentation of the new F1 race car, in Stuttgart planned.
