AMG will replace, next year the naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V8, with a brand new 5.5-liter V8 twin-turbo engine. This confirmed Daimler Research and Development board member Dr. Thomas Weber in an interview. The official reveal of the new engine is set to the Paris Motor Show in October 2010.
Dr. Weber also said, that the move towards downsized engines with turbocharger, won’t be isolated to AMG. The plan is to downsize all Mercedes-Benz V8 engines in 2011 and switch to smaller turbocharged V8 engines. This helps AMG and Mercedes-Benz to reduce the fuel consumption and the CO² emissions.
