Rudolf Caracciola died on 28 September 1959. Fifty years to the day later, around 20 vehicles, including a strong representation from the Mercedes-Benz Kompressor Club e.V., will set off on a tour around Remagen, birthplace of the legendary racing driver. The vehicles taking part will feature various Mercedes-Benz supercharged models, including several original sports and racing cars once driven by Caracciola. Mercedes-Benz will also be sending the W 25 racing car, in which Caracciola notched up countless victories. The event is organised by the Steigenberger Grandhotel Petersberg.
Daimler AG takes great pleasure in the enduring fascination classic automobiles continue to exude and the enthusiasm of participants. The company would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe journey and every enjoyment throughout the event.
The following programme is planned: Cars will depart from the Steigenberger Grandhotel Petersberg at 10 a.m. on 28 September 2009. The tour in original vehicles will follow the Rhine to Ahrtal and from there to Remagen. Here, a short break has been scheduled for 1 p.m. at the recently renamed Caracciola-Platz on the Rheinpromenade, before the cars set off once again at 2 p.m. via Mehlem and Königswinter to a further break at the Wintermühlenhof estate. Here Mercedes-Benz will present the W 25. At 4.30 p.m. all vehicles will make their way to the Steigenberger Grandhotel Petersberg, assembling on the hotel’s Plateau for a final group photograph.
